Plex media player application only in task manager

Server Version#: 4.47.3
Player Version#: 1.25.0.1511-47afccd4

I am unable to start the plex windows app to view videos. Any other source (web, playstation 4, android phone) all run fine and play videos, but when I try to open the windows 10 media player, it shows up in task manager, but does nothing past that. There’s no screen whatsoever that shows up.

I’ve also checked the log files for the media player, and they are completely empty as of today (2 days ago it worked fine, and there were some logs from that. But every attempt to run since has created a completely empty (0kB) log file.

When checking a dump file from task manager, it seems there’s an error on Qt5Core.dll

Try Plex for Windows won't run

Unfortunately, all that does is make plex re-generate the highlander.lock file, and 2 empty log files.

The application itself still only shows up in task manager, with no visible window in any way.

Are you using a particularly large screen? With a non-default zoom factor in the Windows display preferences?

Or are you using a very old device driver for your graphics adapter? Have you tried to update it?

I am using a 1440p display, though the zoom factor is set to the default 100%.
In addition, I’ve made sure that the graphics driver is up to date.

I’ve completely reinstalled windows and all components on the device 4 days ago, and the media player did work up until at least the 3rd of january. I haven’t done any kind of installations or something similar though since I last used the player, so I’m not sure what could have caused it to stop functioning.

It could be a bug in the Qt framework, which is used to build the player.

If you go into your language-specific settings in Windows, verify that you have set different characters for “decimal point” and “thousands separator”.
i.e. the default english number format is 1,000,000.23
or the german is the other way around 1.000.000,23
You need to avoid this format: 1.000.000.23 or this: 1,000,000,23

That was indeed the issue, I had both set to a period.

Thank you so much. This was slowly starting to drive me insane
