Plex media player as receiver of Plex Companion is not working properly anymore

Using the plex android mobile app to play back a music playlist on the plex media player by using Plex Companion does not play back the playlist on the plex media player. It starts the play back of the album of the selected music title.
The same issue occurs if I try to use Plex Mix and Artist Radio to play back the Plex Mix from my android device on the Plex Media Player by using Plex Companion. It just play backs the album on the plex media player.

These issues only occur to me if I am using Plex Companion to start the play back.
Starting the play back on my iOS device by using Plex Companion on my Android device is still working fine, so I guess the issue is related to the Plex Media Player.

I think this started to occure when I upgraded to Plex Media Player 2.16 and was still working with 2.15.
Which logs do you need?
Is it possible that you provide a download link to the Plex Media Player 2.15 until this issue is fixed?

Update:
Player Version#: 2.19.1
I upgraded to 2.19.1. Now it is not possible to play back any media on the Plex Media Played by using Plex Companion anymore.
On my Android device I even get an ā€œUnable to connect to ā€¦ā€ error once I navigate to an artist/album/movie while having my Plex media player selected as connected device.

Confirmed.
TV mode doesnā€™t work in companion.
Desktop does work, but jumps to the beginning of a movie when attempting to start playback somewhere in the middle.

I have the same problem with MacOS as player (PMP: 3.69.0 PMS: 3.67.1). Is there any news?

I just upgraded to 2.21.0 to see if everything related to Plex Companion is working again. For me Plex Companion is still not working when I try to play a music playlist, Plex Mix or an artist radio.

I am using the PMP in the TV mode.

Anyways, good to see that there is at least some progress. :slight_smile:

Working here when initiated from my Android phone. (although I am running an alpha app on the phone)

Oh wait. No it only plays the first track.

It looks like the fix hasnā€™t made it into the release branch, yet.

Yes, it always plays the first track and continues with the album of that track instead of playing the currect queue.
And thanks for the feedback, really looking forward to upgrade the PMP. I am currently always downgrading back to 2.10 to have a proper companion support

Tested it with the new media player 2.24. Plex Companion is still not working for playing music playlist or any other random playback (radios/Plex Mix/Random playback of an album (First item is selected randomly, the rest of the playback follows the sequence of the album))

Yes, mainly the Android mobile app and rarly the iOS one, but never at the same time.
This issue occurs with both apps.

Tested it with the new media player 2.25. Plex Companion is still not working. Same issue than before.

Hi,
same here. The last working version for playing playlist (Player on Windows) is the 2.15.
On the Mac Client it runs fine.

My Companion Clients are IOS and Android (latest versions), Server is 1.14.

Please fix it.

Indeed the Issues overlap.
Although i have noticed some additional Misbehaviour when using the Android App as Plex Companion.

  1. Playback of Playlists / Collections of any Kind (regardless of a TV Series or Smart Playlist etc.) does not work in Shuffle Mode and in regular Mode (then only the first Item will play)
  2. If i start Playback via the Android App and its finished or i cancel it the On-Screen-Controls wont work, meaning that if the Plex Player jumps back to the previously watched TV Series and i navigate with the Arrow Keys to Start Playback or Shuffle Playback it gives me an Error Playback failed
  3. Maybe not direclty related to Playback from Android : Editing of a Playlist wont have Effects. If i delete an Item from a manually created Playlist in the Android App it remains in the Playlist. Then trying to delete it from the Server gives me an Error (Error removing that Element or something like that) and afterwards its removed

My Issue was reopened some time ago but i havent heard something since then. Hopefully some Dev sees it here

@OttoKerner Thanks for mentioning this thread in the GitHub issue. I really hope a developer will take a look at it soon. This feature is kind of mandatory for me.

Maybe this helps someone, here is my current workaround for this issue:
On my HTPC I just installed PlexAMP and Plex Media Player and put both in my autostart.
So I am now using PlexAMP as compainion player for music playback and PMP for the movies. It seems like PlexAMP does not hit any of the PMP issues I was complaining about. And it even supports the gapless playback.
