Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314-a0bfb8370 (Ubuntu 24.04.1 VM with 8 GB RAM and 4 vCPU)
Player Version#: Version 1.107.2.300-7093f413
Hardware transcoding is enabled and the device to be used is GTX1050 (passthrough to VM). Whenever the server is forced to transcode let’s say a 4K file to 1080p with a lower bitrate, the player is crashing. This is happening on the Windows Player. On iOS, transcoding is happening fine without crashing the iOS app.
Describe what you mean by this. A crash is when the application exits unexpectedly but it seems like it is just an unexpected termination of playback and not the app.
I’ve been trying to reproduce your issue and failing. I could see from your logs that it starts off with a direct play and then tries to transition into a transcode, or at least that’s how it appears.
How is the quality changing? Are you doing something to initiate it or is it happening on its own?
I am changing the quality to see if transcoding is working or not. I changed the original quality (4K 50 Mbps) to like 12 Mbps to test transcoding. For some reason, the Windows app, the playback is terminating. It’s working for iOS and Amazon Firestick client and I see that in the server.
I am experiencing the same issue currently. Plex for Windows seems to abort playback after a few seconds of transcoding, logging End of File messages and kicking back to the home screen. Plex HTPC on the same machine can watch transcoded files just fine (as well as iOS).
I’m using a Nvidia Tesla P4 on my server (passed to docker), and in the past it has definitely been able to transcode to Plex for Windows. Like the OP I found the issue when manually changing the quality to test if transcoding was working after I ran updates on my server.
