Plex Media Player has NEVER worked for me

Server Version# 1.16.5.1554:
Player Version#:3.104.2

I have used Plex for many years and thru many computers…and have always used some other media player to watch directly off my server pc…streaming works great…but the Plex Media Player(and all the other previous “Theaters” and what not have always had a stutter in playback…I am a video technician by trade and I know it looks to me to be incorrect fps matching…windows Movies and Video app works fine with my videos…as does Kodi which is what I currently use…I keep installing the latest version of Plex Media Player…my current PC is brand new…I prob been thru about 5 over the years that served as my main server pc…always the same stutter…how hard is it for Plex to create a player worthy of Windows generic player or Kodi?

It sounds like you require refresh-rate-switching. So that the display is using the exact same frame rate like your video file.

Plex Media Player is able to do that, but it requires you to:

  1. activate and use the ‘TV Mode’
  2. enter the preferences and explicitly ‘Allow Display Mode Switching’

pmp_fullscreen

And just to be sure: Plex Media Player is a separate software, which you must download and install separately from the Plex media server:

It is also a different software than the newly published Plex Player for Windows and Mac.

Thank you so much!!!Fixed it…Why wouldnt the setting be in both modes ? and who would need it to not be swithched on in the first place?..just curious if theres something I dont know I dont know…thanks again!

If you use the player in ‘windowed’ mode, it is not sensible to switch the whole screen to the frame rate of a single window on that screen, which doesn’t even cover the whole screen area.
i.e. the windowed mode is made for ppl who use a regular computer screen instead of a TV and use the player in a window.
And these desktop monitors often don’t even have the ability to switch to a ‘video’ framerate.

Worked for me after years of struggle! Will there be a similar solution within the new Plex app (since it lacks TV mode but gives me the same issue)?

It hasn’t been decided yet, finally. Right now it is intended as a desktop app and so cannot make use of RRS sensibly.
