On a Mac.
My global setting for collections is “Disabled”, which means (AFAIK) that collection names should not be mixed with movie titles under the library tab.
I edited a specific collection to have the setting “Hide items in this collection” instead of “Library default”. My assumption is that this should prevent the individual movie titles from being listed under the library tab, but I can find them via the “Collections” tab. (And the collection might also be listed under the “Library” tab?)
But I still see the movies listed under “Library”, as though it ignored the “Hide items…” setting.
Can anyone reproduce this issue?
Can anyone confirm this is a bug, and that it’s supposed to hide the movies from my library?
I tried it with another collection and seeing the same behaviour - “Hide items in this collection” seemingly has no effect.
I then tried changing it to “Show this collection and its items”, and that doesn’t seem to have any effect, either. It keeps showing the items, but it does not list the collection itself under the “Library” tab like I would expect.
Is your library sorted by title?
If it’s not, the collection won’t display – instead you’ll see the individual movies.
The same goes if your library is filtered (e.g. by Decade, Genre).
So you want to disable displaying collections, but re-enable it for specific collections?
A neat idea, but AFAIK, not currently possible.
Were you to disable displaying collections, and also disable displaying items in a collection, it would effectively hide those items completely, at least in the Library tab.
I believe the library setting for collections (disbled/hide/show) takes precedence for what is displayed in the Library tab. I do not see a way to disable displaying collections, then re-enable it on a per-collection basis.
It is not a bug. You can’t hide the collections and hide the movies in them at the same time under the library tab, essentially removing all trace of them from the library tab view.
When “disabled” at the library level, collections will not show under the Library tab and will show the individual movies instead, regardless of the setting on the individual collections. They will only show under Collections tab when disabled.
I can ask that the docs on them be made more clear what the Disabled setting does.
Perfect, thank you. And thanks everyone for clarifying this.
Documenting it sounds excellent.
It would be even clearer, of course, if the setting was disabled on individual collections with an explanatory text right there saying why, but also more work for the developers.
