Plex Media Server 1.16.3.1402 has been sabotaged

I had video buffering and network speed issues a few months back. I put extra RAM in the QNAP and the problem disappeared, in fact QNAP performance for all functions improved considerably.

thanks for that - which device? …mine is a TS-453Bmini.

How much did you put in / how much do you have now?

I have never had buffering issues until the last 2 updates (which makes me a little suspicious).

Mine is a TS 453-Pro

There was 4GB ram installed when new, basically I doubled the RAM to 8GB.

On the matter of the thread, have you encountered any of the problems that others have with this release? On my system, the QNAP firmware updates are applied within a couple of days of release, and I do the same with the Plex Server, so that upgrades are always from the immediately preceding version. With the PMS releases, I do keep several of the previous versions in my downloads folder.

There was only one occasions when a PMS release went bad for me, which was about a year ago, and everything ran * really slowly *. I decided to completely uninstall PMS and then reinstall. This made a big difference. Since then, no major problems but the recent number of updates to the server software has raised my eyebrows!

Interesting.

I have 4GB RAM but it has never complained about that.

I also typically upgrade within a few days of the firmware being released. I have rarely had to downgrade because of a problem. 2 notable exceptions are quite recent:

  • fromPMS 1.16.1 to 1.16.2 as my DVR disappeared. I had to downgrade (which brought it back), delete the DVR, u[grade again and then add-back the DVR
  • 1.16.3 (i.e. now) because I never had network issues before (my Apple TV shows it has >65Mb/sec connectivity) and the only thing that changes was upgrading PMS. I am going to go back to 1.16.2 and see what happens

[edit: I hit ā€œsaveā€ by accident before finishing]

Does anyone have links to the older versions for download? I can’t seem to find them, and I’d like to revert back to a working version with DVR support. :frowning:

how do you downgrade???

You should find a updates folder with older versions.

While at work the other night I was streaming away and suddenly the stream started dropping out. Eventually I could no longer access PLEX remotely, but COULD access the rest of my home network. I figured maybe the server just barfed up as it had been on for a rather long period of time.

Got home, checked things out, OS was still responding, everything was responding, but PLEX wasn’t. I forcefully closed it and restarted the program, and all was well till tonight.

In the middle of an episode it just stopped, sat like it was buffering, so I started to navigate things, but couldn’t get any information to come up at all, just blank grey pages with the menus.

Opened the server up, and the PLEX server app had crashed, again, with in 48 hours of the last restart. Checked what version I am on, and it was 1.16.3.1402.

I didn’t see anything outstanding in the log files, then again, I am not confident in my log reading abilities.

Because of this thread, I have downgraded PLEX to 1.16.0.1226

I spend most my time at work, 14 hours a day, 5 days a week, so I can’t really be home to keep restarting and don’t like the idea of opening a port to be able to remotely access a Desktop GUI just to restart the app.

That no longer works (on my Mac anyway).

@allendukes @Grogg68 A quick search gave me this for windows and Mac.

Plex do keep all their old versions, but you need to know the complete filename.

Here is a link to past revision numbers. It should not matter which platform you are on as I believe they are the same. Here are the most recent ones:

  • 1.16.3.1402-22929c8a2
  • 1.16.2.1321-ad17d5f9e
  • 1.16.2.1297-4b7ace214
  • 1.16.1.1291-158e5b199
  • 1.16.1.1273-4b6101f87
  • 1.16.0.1226-7eb2c8f6f
  • 1.15.8.1198-eadbcbb45

Same here. And unfortunately for me, trying to fix the issue actually made things worse as I now can not access Plex outside my network. Still trying to work the issue but had to take a break due to frustration with Plex overall.

What version were you on before upgrading to 1.16.3.1402? [/quote]

I was using plex pass versions, i believe 1.16.2 was working previously

Agh, I am aware of a problem between 1.16.0 and later but not between 1.16.2 and 1.16.3.

I avoid Plex Pass versions at all costs. I am not sure why, as a Plex Pass user, I should pay to beta test for Plex…

[edit: misread edlivian’s reply and thought part of my quote was part of his answer ]

OK, finally fix my remote access issue by going into my router and setting up port forwarding using the specified port Plex supplies. Problem for me was I never had to do this before as Plex automatically configured for outside access. Now it seems you have to port forward???

For those interested you can use this YouTube clip as a guide. Note I never changed my NAS’ Network settings from DHCP to Static. All I did was a port forwarding in the router.

If there’s a better more secure way, or I’m missing something in getting thing to set up ā€œautomaticallyā€ please advise, because in the past I didn’t have to do port forwarding.

BTW I’m running the 1402 update.

Peace:)

Using port forwarding explicitly is no less and no more secure than what you were using before (UPnP for auto-configuration of your port forwarding)

Using UPnP , an application can automatically forward a port on your router , saving you the hassle of forwarding ports manually.

While I appreciate the reply, your tone speaks as if I’m some kind of DA. I’m not and I don’t appreciate the tone.

Anyway I most definitely have UPnP enabled in my router (as it always has). I double checked this as I was troubleshooting my ā€œNo remote accessā€ issue. It’s why I’m a bit perplexed about why I had to port forward when I never did before.

That said, I very much look forward to further suggestions as to why this suddenly is??? Perhaps a Windows (10) network setting I should look at? BTW I did disable the firewall, and still the issue persisted. Thus far, the only fix is manually port forwarding :frowning:

Oh, BTW, if anyone is interested, there is a new update out… 1433. Discovered it when I was looking for a new server file.

Thanks.

I’m either simple or stupid cause I can’t make that out. I gonna know… What does that mean.

OMG! I’m such a DA!!

Yep I typed it and it got flagged immediately lol.
Dumb a** forums.

Please accept my apologies, it certainly wasn’t my intent. I think I was confused with another thread on a somewhat related topic.

Apparently I was the dumb 455 !

Okay, now you all are showing off…:grinning:
