Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309-f5213a238
Player Version#:
I only use PMS to play my own media stored on Synology DS415play on 2 devices (iPad and Samsung TV) and this worked perfectly until I changed my home network. The new network uses different IP-addresses but all devices mentioned in this subject have been assigned static ip-addresses.
After changing the network-hardware all devices are visible in Plex except the Media Server!
both devices that worked before have new (static) ip-addresses and can be found by Plex
only the media server has disappeared
I removed and reinstalled PMS, ensured it runs the most recent version. There should not be any problem, but the server cannot be found. When trying to add “Your media” I am kindly requested to install PMS. Is my Plex-account possibly linked to PMS on the old ip-address?
I am at a complete loss.
All items relating to “adding devices” don’t provide any solution. I cannot find a way to add a device.
I think this might be a very simple issue, but I keep turning in circles…
Have you by chance configured a manual connection using the old IPs in the Samsung/iOS apps?
Are those IP addresses all on the same subnet?
As a side note… the server version you’ve mentioned in your post is quite dated (>2 years to be precise). Not saying this is the issue but you might experience some issues with such an old version.
PMS version is updated to latest version. I used an old version because the Samsung app isn’t supported anymore. Forget the Samsung app (for this I’ve switched to video station, horrible app compared to Plex but it works for now).
Current version PMS now is: 1.25.4.5487-6000
All devices are on the same subnet (I have only 1 subnet):
server 192.168.50.xx
iPad 192.168.50.xx
I removed the samsung-app from the list of authorized devices. There are no manual connections in de IOS-app.
The IOS-app still does not see the server. However, when I browse the sidebar of IOS-app (home, downloads, more), in “More” the Synology NAS is mentioned as Offline.
It cannot be deleted.
Server is not recognized by Plex web.
I tried the private window approach, but result is the same: In Settings there is no server_name listed (not in settings root options, not in Authorized Devices or in General).
I tried to reset customization General: Reset sidebar navigation and home screen layout to the default state. You’ll be redirected to the Setup screen, where you can choose a server (if you have access to more than one) and other media providers from which to build your navigation and home screen content. But with no effect.
Maybe I should delete my Plex account and start from scratch?
I’m not sure if this is about a new server setup or if you’re being locked out from an existing one.
Are you accessing your server through its local IP address (e.g. http://127.0.0.1:32400/web if you’re on the same machine as the PMS, http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web otherwise)?
I think I’m locked out from my existing server for some reason or Plex Web is looking in the wrong location. When I look in “+ Your media” in Plex Web it says I need to install Plex Media Server while the most recent version (1.25.4.5487-6000) is already running on my nas.
When I click tot install PMS I redirects me to Plex (for Mac) and not Plex for Synology. Does that indicate something?
Sounds like you’re locked out… this can happen if you change your account password and opt to sign-out all devices (which will include the server) or you’re working with different Plex Accounts.
Try to open your Plex Media Server through the bundled version of Plex Web → http://[Syno IP address]:32400/web
for some reason that does not solve the problem.
During this procedure I have made a second Plex account to see if this might solve the issue. It didn’t. I am sure I log into Plex web using the original Plex account. I don’t see why changing Plex accounts would be an issue.
I am going to delete both Plex accounts: my original one and this one that I used to start this topic. Next month I’m going to start fresh with a brand new Plex account (and probably the identical issue )
Unfortunately account deletion will result in not being able to restart/reinitialize my Plex account for a month and not able to participate in this topic anymore.
Thanks for all your help (Tom and Fordguy) so far. Plex has annoyed me a bit, but that has nothing to do with all efforts for everybody trying to fix my issue.
You don’t need to delete your account – that’ll be most counter-productive.
Your server is linked to a Plex account – if you try to access it while signed in with a different Plex account, you won’t be able to see any of its content nor to manage it (for good reason). As pointed out above… if your server isn’t signed in / claimed, you cannot access it from many Plex apps, including the “hosted” version of Plex Web (https://app.plex.tv/desktop). In such an unclaimed state you can only access your server through the “bundled” version of Plex Web (http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web).
delete all pms data on nas to ensure absolute clean install → I am quite certain somewhere in this (shared) folder the old [PMS IP address] was stored and restricted new server “search” after reinstall.
create new Plex account
install plex media server → no problemo, server is found and content is added.
Yes, it will take a day (or 2) to re-index 10TB of media, but it will work again… finally.
You were probably right that deleting accounts was not necessary, but better safe than sorry.
That sounds like a number of unnecessary steps.
If you got locked out and cannot even access/reclaim the server through its local IP address, there’s always this procedure
Getting a new account just for the fun of it is definitely not needed.
To others reading this thread, in addition to @tom80H’s comments:
If you delete your Plex account, you cannot use the same username/e-mail to sign up for a new account for 30 days. This is noted on the account deletion page, but many people blow by it.
If you have a Plex Pass, it will not automatically be transferred to a new account. You will have to contact Plex Billing to work things out.
