Plex Media Server Keeps Dropping Connection During Scanning

Server Version#: 4.34.4
Player Version#:
This is a new machine I’m setting up. I had to uninstall a perfectly working PMS. and reinstall it again. Since then, I believe the PMS App is treating the server as a remote server and not local … It keeps crashing every 5 minutes during scan. It is also a probability it could see multiple servers with the same name … I really have no idea where to start my troubleshooting

Which app? Web app? Check in settings to confirm Server is local

The server is local and PMS identifies it as local (It says Nearby with a green lock and a checkmark) but the connection to the server keeps dropping every 5 minutes … The libraries have been completely scanned and updated fully … I initially thought my library was too big and it was an issue of processing … But now there is no logical reason why a local server connection get dropped. I get this exact message " There was an unexpected error loading this library Please visit our forums if you continue to experience problems"

Change your DNS on the server to a public DNS like 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1

I already did even though this is a separate issue by definition … The server does not need DNS information to communicate locally … If it does, then there’s something wrong … but in all cases this is not the issue and the problem still stands unfortunately

Well ok, tell some Smart TV that and Plexserver calling Mothership PLEX to authenticate when using your LAN services.

I know right!

So … Any other ideas anyone?

A support article what a scan does.

Please confirm which version of Plex media server your using? Find it in Server/general settings

I’m using Version 1.20.0.3133 (latest version)

So any other server show?

Can you take a screenshot of authorised devices from server

Anything?!

Very busy Gateway, have you made static LAN IP addresses for your devices in the gateway. Does your gateway offer Diagnostics of the network to check for TX and RX errors?

I removed most of the devices there … kept only 4. I have a static IP address … I don’t know if my gateway offers diagnostics … my problem is with reading my local media … all my media are stored on a drobo NAS connected to the server via USB and direct wired ethernet cable … I had the same setup for years nothing changed except after upgrading to macOS Mojave as mentioned earlier … Plex should not lose connection to a local HDD on the same machine … I don’t think it’s a network issue at all

Also, Movie folders get scanned and I could see the activity through the dashboard … I could browse and play friends library shared over the internet smoothly but I cannot browse or play my own media … it is not a network problem for sure … it has to be a settings or configuration issue but we can’t seem to put our hands on the problem yet I guess

Have you added permissions, for you it will be network volumes
