Plex Media Server - Not Authorized You Do Not Have Access To This Server

Thanks for the answer.

I had my network administrator change the Pravate address.
After changing the address, I rebooted the NAS and confirmed that the Plex authentication passed.

Thanks for your help.

Hello, I tried installing and claiming with my existing plex account. However I get the Not Authorized message. Logs.zip (91.0 KB)
I’m trying to setup a new server so I don’t have to run my windows server, but it never shows me the new Synology Plex Server.

@codog180

You have a certificate attached to the Synology?

You can’t use it with Plex until after you first add it to Plex.

@ChuckPa I haven’t done anything with Certs. Can you provide me some more info on what I need to do?

@codog180

What can you share about the environment ?

All I can see is it’s a DS1821+ with the Ryzen processor.

What does the network topology surrounding it look like ?

How do you connect to it ?

@ChuckPa
It sits on a storage vlan with the rest of the machines on the network in a user vlan. The user machines all have access to the storage vlan. If i need to access the synology I go to https://internaladdres:5001 and sign in.

@codog180

Normally, we use port 5000 when opening the Synology. (http)
When https: is enabled and the embedded, self-signed, certificate is enforced, we use port 5001.

Your use of port 5001 is telling me that you’ve likely enabled https.

If this is true, then the embedded certificate which comes with DSM is indeed the certificate getting in the way.

Can you confirm you’re using “https” when opening port 32400 ?

@ChuckPa Plex is not configured to use https I access it via http on port 32400.

You cannot use a DDNS

Yes you can.

I don’t know if you mean to come across as an ass, but you do.

This is a ■■■■ show of an update, so don’t get annoyed with people who are trying to get their head around what should be a simple f’ing task.

May I ask ?

Is the issue here about whether or not you can use a FQDN / DDNS URL when first claiming the server ?

Use of a DDNS

if the referrer IP is on a different subnet, or the DDNS address is WAN (Public) IP – PMS default security will block claiming.

Direct IP

If the originating IP and the PMS server are on different subnets (different LAN , or one LAN/one WAN) default security will require SSH tunnel or use of the claim token method.

Use of FQDN with certificate

Will not allow claiming via the browser – period.

Caveat:

The LAN segment being used must be RFC-1918 compliant else it will be deemed “WAN” (public) IP addressing and force WAN security rules.

@gsdkain

I will request you remain civil and control your language.

Your frustration is understood but please be respectful to all.

@ChuckPa I don’t know if the response about DDNS was to me or not. I’m not attempting to use DDNS. The originating IP address and the PMS are the same WAN/NAT address. The LAN segment is RFC-1918 compliant and 10.100.110.0/24. I have tried fresh installations with normal and claim code. Both result in me not being able to access the PMS on the synology via http://directlanip:32400

@codog180

Please describe for me how the VLANs are setup.

I have two VLANs here. The devices on those VLANs are driven by the PVID (Port Vlan ID) to control traffic flow. Devices exclusively on VLAN 999 cannot see devices on VLAN 1 even at the same subnet address. My VLAN 999 is strictly internal; No external connectivity.

If you’re seeing the NAS on an IP, traffic is flowing between you and the NAS.

The question I have concerns the NAS and the outside modem/router.

Is the modem/router also a member of that same VLAN? If it’s not then we know why it cannot authenticate (requires plex.tv to respond).

By extension of this; add the modem/router to that VLAN so traffic can flow from the SYno <-> the modem/router (and Plex.tv)

@ChuckPa Hello, I have 2 VLANs Storage VLAN 110 and User VLAN 100. Both VLANs have internet access the same way and there is no difference in the NAT policies i.e. both show as the same public ip to external sources. The port forwarding on the firewall works as I can see the connections in the router logs. There are no rules between the VLANs either that would be causing an issue.

@ChuckPa Plex Media Server.zip (69.8 KB)
just updated to dsm 7 and installed the new PMS from Plex website. Everything goes smoothly but when clicking on the PMS icon in DSM i get the not authorized error. If i delete everything after :32400 then i get in but my server in synology/dsm plex server is missing and there are no options to readd or add new. I uploaded my logs.

Hi Chuck,

I just got a Synology 920+ and am a total noob. It won’t connect to my server.

I followed these instructions, but it still won’t connect. Can you help me please?

  1. You have to be on the same network as the server for initial setup (to claim the server).
  2. You have to be using RFC-1918 addressing for your network (such as 10.x.x.x, 172.16.x.x to 172.31.x.x, or 192.168.x.x).
  3. Point your browser at the IP address of the DS920+: http:// nas_ip_address :32400/web (ex: http://192.168.1.5:32400/web).

@hcullens_gmail_com

Please share some details?

  1. LAN IP of the Syno?
  2. LAN IP of your computer ?
  3. Is your Syno signed into QuickConnect?
  4. How are you trying to open the Plex app on your new Syno?

Lastly, what would you like me to do with your other (duplicate) thread?

To be honest I gave up trying to get it to work on my Synology NAS. Spent a good week trying to get it to work, so many forums I went though, even nuked everything and tried to start again. Paid a full licence didn’t solve a thing, gave it 2 months updated everything again still.

"Not authorized

You do not have access to this server"

So frustrating I used this for many years until moving to DSM v7.

Back to very basics question –

What’s the IP address (LAN IP) of the syno?
Are you using 1 adapter or more to connect to your LAN?

What’s the IP address (LAN IP) of the machine you’re retrying to access it from.

Are you using any certificates (your own or a self-signed certificate you added to DSM) ?

Hello. I’ve just received my DS920+ which I purchased for running Plex. I can’t run Plex.

I’ve installed the Synology DSM 7 / Intel 64-bit package. I’ve followed the install instructions - I’ve given System Internal User / PlexMediaServer Read/Write access to the folder with my media. The DS920+ LAN IP address is 192.168.1.25. My machine address is 192.168.1.240.

Package centre provides URL “http://192-168-1-25.richlyon.direct.quickconnect.to:32400/web/index.html#!/setup/97a343f5741fc5bba8eaec267e4500f9a22dd72a” to access Plex. This yields “Not Authorized”.

http://192.168.1.25:32400/web allows me to start selecting media folders, but then protests that the connection is insecure, and hangs with the message " Synology is currently unavailable Verify you have a network connection and that the server is online, or see our troubleshooting tips for further assi.stance."

Any advice gratefully received
