Plex Media Server not "seeing itself"

Hi everyone,

First of all apologies as I’m not that much into computers so I might not be able to express myself as clearly as I wish. I’m having troubles to run the Plex Media Server on my computer (macOS Sierra 10.12.6).
After installing the server, it boots up and it opens automatically the page to initialise the server, however when it comes to adding a custom library it hangs. All I can do at this point is finishing the process without adding any libraries (fair enough). From this point on it looks like the server can not “see itself”. If I try to access it from http://localhost:32400/web it doesn’t even show on the list, while if I use 127.0.0.1, the computer’s local IP address, or app.plex.tv it shows as “unavailable”.

I have checked the support articles and actioned them to the best of my knowledge but to no avail. There are no VPNs, no proxies configured on the router or on the computer and the server is up to date. There is no security software installed, and turning off the firewall on the router and on the computer doesn’t make a difference, nor does using a different browser. It is listed in the “authorised devices” page (twice, actually, since I reinstalled it), and weirdly enough I don’t seem to be able to remove it from that list. I have already tried to uninstall it completely (including deleting all logs and preferences files) and reinstall it but nothing changed.

I have then tried to install Plex Media Server on my laptop, and it works fine. That laptop is connected to the same wifi network and with the same network settings, which to me suggests that the problem should lie in my computer and not in the router. The only difference is that the laptop is running macOS 10.11.6.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Luca

Looks very related to the issues I’m experiencing over here (sans replies :crying_cat_face:): No soup for you - cannot access my server - #3 by jonnii

I’ll be honest - there’s a lot of your debugging there that I don’t understand  But I’ll keep an eye on your thread as well, hopefully a solution will come up!

Just in case it is useful to somebody… I have managed to solve the problem by loading http://localhost:32400/web after turning the wifi connection off on my computer. That fixed everything and now it runs ok! :exploding_head:
