Plex Media Server Settings Unavailable - Windows10

Server Version#:1.23.2.4600-f06057b33
Player Version#:

Hello everyone, first post and not very knowledgeable when it comes to Plex…but I have been using it for a little over a year.

For the past 6ish months I haven’t been able to access anything under the Settings or Manage section of the Plex web app or even when double clicking the Plex tray icon. Sometimes when I double click the Plex tray icon web browser opens but fails to load, but I can still use the web app completely fine…other than anything under Settings and Manage. When I click on any of them I get “Plex Media Server Settings Unavailable”.

I have tried all sorts of “fixes” and work-arounds without any luck. I have ensured my server (Windows 10 Pro) is completely updated and Plex Server is updated.
I have tried to downgrade using one of the methods I found on this forum.
I have completely removed Plex from my server using another method which includes deleting registry keys? Then installed again with the same issues.
I have created a new user account and installed plex and it has the same issues as my current user account.

I honestly don’t know what else to do.

Any help will be great!

Follow it to the letter: Why am I locked out of Server Settings and how do I get in? | Plex Support

Gave that a go and followed exactly what it said. No luck with that.

What I did end up doing: Completely remove all Plex programs, services, registry entries/keys from my server and then installed an old copy of Plex 1.19.1.2701…restarted the server and BOOM Plex started to work properly, can access all my settings and manage everything how I could before the issues I experienced.

Now I just have to sort out my Remote Access issues which I had when I first installed this copy of Plex last year.

Soooo, after Plex server settings working for a week or so on the older version or Plex, they have stopped working once again. I have followed the instructions on the like above and still no luck. I don’t see why this keeps happening at all. Also I have issues every so often where I can only open the Plex Web App to view what’s happening with PMS, I can’t double click the PMS icon to open it locally. Either way, still no settings access.

Any further advise/help?

On the Windows machine where Plex server is running:
Is there more than one Windows user account in use? (Even if only for maintenance!)
If so, Plex Server is running in the user context.
If you start it first under one user account, a second instance cannot be started under another user account.
You want to make sure that the Plex icon in the task tray is only appearing under one (always the same) Windows user account.
Disable the autostart of Plex server under all user accounts but one.

You might also want to disable the behavior of Windows to automatically log in the last-used user account after a reboot. Because otherwise it could thwart you achieving the above.

I have the exact same problem, unable to access general settings, manage, etc with error server settings are unavailable.

The issue persists on the local machine where Plex is installed and when accessing via web app - I can’t even check for updates like before!

I have manually downloaded and installed the latest version - same issue.

This started a few weeks ago, maybe a month and I see some users reported that downgrading solves their problem but haven’t tried that.

I have tried the guide on this issue from Plex but the problem is not solved.

This sucks - I’m a Plex Pass user but unable to fully use Plex. Can someone from Plex have a say about this issue and when will it be fixed?

Thanks!
