OK, this will be very easy.
-
Uninstall the DSM 7 application , the -7000 package, (which is what I think you now have)
-
As you uninstall – choose the ERASE option. This removes all the DSM 7 data which is about to get in our way (it’s an invalid server configuration)
-
If you have the -6000 package, simply uninstall it. (I don’t think this is the case)
-
Now download the DSM7 package from https://plex.tv/downloads
-
As you install it, it will start to print error popups and then exit.
-
This is expected and part of how DSM 7 forces us to upgrade. ( we had to change username in DSM 7 )
-
Follow the instructions exactly as given (take notes or screenshots if you need). I’ve also created all the documentation here which details it.
-
When all the requirements are satisfied, the package will sit there at “installing”.
-
At this point, it’s now converting all your metadata from DSM 6 to DSM 7. The amount of time varies for everyone.
-
In the Plex shared folder, you will find “Migration.log” This log file shows you date & time stamping as it goes through all the steps
-
At the end, if you get a popup with Blue text on it – you’re done.
Now you give System Internal User “PlexMediaServer” permission to access your media just as it shows in that popup.
Take your time. This is a VERY detail-rich process. I tried really hard to make it as easy as possible but it couldn’t be helped.
