The native package does not include the runtime libraries for HDR (still waiting on that).
You can, if you’re willing to setup docker via the command line, Create a completely overlaying docker instance (overlays the storage of your existing Plex server – complete with UID matching, etc) and then have both Syno control of the container while still using your existing PMS installation.
Please forgive the blanket instructions. These will cover both install fail cases.
PREMISE: You still have all your metadata in the Plex shared folder
Uninstall + ERASE the DSM 7 package
Install the package again.
Uninstall + ERASE the package again.
If you’re using 1.24.2.4973 or higher,
The “PlexMediaServer” shared folder will be created.
The two install cycles will have
a. First erase erases anything errant in PlexMediaServer - step 2
b. Install will move the hidden (if it exists) to PlexMediaServer
c. Second erases removes the relocated one – resulting in both errant servers removed.
The final install will start the migration
IF IT DOES NOT:
Uninstall + ERASE
Control Panel - Shared Folder
Rename “Plex” → “PLEX-TEMP”
Save that
Rename it again, CASE-SenSiTiVe to ‘Plex’
(I have a change being released which matches all possible cases but there are some out there with PLEX / PleX / etc because the shared folder was moved to another volume and case not preserved by the user . The installer always created “Plex”
hey @ChuckPa ! First off thanks for helping me resolve my issue last month, you were a pleasure to talk to sir.
To fulfill my end of the bargain, I did some research on running MS Flight Sim with a HOTOS setup on Linux, and it does look to be possible using a combo of Wine, Steam for Linux, and via Steam’s “Steam Play” service. This should see the major HOTAS setups and allow button mapping accordingly.
HOWEVER, it does seem like a pain… I’d opt for picking up a new XBOX, and running the game on there. You’ll love it, and much less hassle. Also cost effective if you compare it against new hardware that will handle the flight sim on your linux box (take a look a graphic card prices…)
ANYWAYS SIR
I had one other PLEX related question. Ever since you and I got me up and running, everything works save for a weird issue that I THINK is permission related.
I use PLEX with Sonarr and Radarr to manage my libraries. Currently once a movie lands in a directory on the NAS, it copies it over to my PLEX movie share, then PLEX auto-refreshes new items added to my movie share folder automatically.
However this is no longer working. The movie is copied to the movie directory as intended, but it won’t pick it up on the PLEX side unless I copy the movie to my personal desktop, then copy it back to the NAS movie share… Then it picks up…
120TB storage (10 x 12TB, room for 2 more). 21 physical devices in the box.
LXD as the virtualization agent. (no more Docker… One LXC to do the work of 3 dockers with a LOT less fuss)
I could run FS on that in VM now too. LXDware / LXD has virtualization in it for this level work on this class machne. I am likely to keep it as the brute monster it is.
@ChuckPa
Plex offered me the new version: PlexMediaServer-1.24.4.5081-e362dc1ee-aarch64_DSM7
I’m Dl this version and bug…: Failed - Invalid File Format
Ok I misunderstood. It’s the DSM 7 Plex server that needs to be uninstalled, not the DSM.
I went through everything and continue to get.
I give full control permissions to the PlexMediaServer folder and the Plex folder.
When I reinstall I get the can’t access media message above. I go back into the shared folder and the PlexMediaServer folder is back to Read/Write and the Administration privileges are unchecked. I kept doing this with the Plex folder (still there from the older plex) read/write and admin privileges both. Still the PlexMediaServer folder reverts back to Read/Write and I get the message.
Thank you
Steve
Thanks trumpy81. Regardless, as I said every time I reinstall the DSM 7.0 Plex media server the permissions revert back to Read/Write only and no admin privileges. The Media folder are all set for Read/Write in plexmediaserver as instructed.
This thing still will not connect. Geez!
This what I get when logged into plex.tv
Hello,
I know I’m a pain, but has really been frustrating.
I wasn’t able to get through the first steps. I got rid of all Authorized devices accept the Plex devices and one Chrome device. Every time I tried the account would reboot and I’d have to sign in again and the devices were still there.
Hello
I am a long term user of Plex, I have a Plex pass and have recently upgraded my Synology NAS to one of the latest versions of Disc Station Manager. This is my first post ever anywhere, and I need some help please
The automatic upgrade of the Synology Disc station Manager was painless.
I then tried to upgrade Plex but it failed in error, I tried to repair the error several times but that failed, so I removed plex and tried to reinstall plex (unfortunately the Beta version). It has now been uninstalled.
I can see the three shares I would expect. One is a Plex share, and the other is my Media files. I cannot see a PlexMediaServer Share.
I have tried to install the latest version of Plex (1.24 . . . . .) and that fails as expected. I have on countless occasions set all the permissions and attempted new installs - I simply cannot get past the ‘Failed to install the package Error’ Others have tried and failed on my system also. I can see that the Plex share has Full Control permissions, and that it is applied to all folders, but when a try to install plex I am in this endless loop - I simply cannot get past the Failed to Install package error
It’s as if something in the permissions is not registering correctly, though it all looks correct
Please advise what you would like to see in order to guide me - this is all very frustrating & I miss my Plex Media Server!
I have since manually upgraded Synology DSM 7 software to a higher version for my DS916+ as recommended ,but still I cannot install PMS
I have read over the last week almost all of this forum and nobody appears to have quite the same problem.
Thank you for the reply
I believe that all the data is all present and correct in the Plex shared folder - I do not know what I am looking at, but I can see the Metadata etc, so I am assuming everything else is there.
BUT, what I cannot see and cannot find is any Plex application in my Synology Package Centre. As far as I can see there is no Plex app installed - there is no Icon and I have no idea where to look to find Plex in any other form. Because I cannot see it, and I cannot find it, I cannot uninstall it and cannot load a clean version to be able to continue with the installation.
This is my dilemma - how do I uninstall what I cannot see?
I think something is there but I have no idea how to remove it
Thank you!
The help is appreciated
I’ve been there, done that (17 times today, including a few minutes ago) with the same results as my first post. It simply will not install
It continues to tell me
Failed to install Package - plex does not have full control of existing Plex Share
I simply cannot install PMS by the nominated route, so I cannot uninstall it so I cannot continue
Screenshot enclosed
Again, My thanks for the reply
‘Convert to Windows ACL’ is greyed out
I am trying to install to Volume 2 (I did try Volume 1 - just in case) - but that was clutching at straws
Question:
If / When Plex gets going again with the Erase option for PMS delete my videos or images or will they stay intact?
