Need help; I just updated my Synology to 7 without thinking about plex. Went to open it and saw the beta. Didn’t work, uninstalled and found the forums.
Downloaded multiple different versions from for plex media server from windows to synology dsm 7 and a bunch others. But then trying to manually install the package they all say
“this package is not supported on the platform of synology NAS or is incompatible with the current DSM version”.
My current DSM is 7.0-41890
assuming synaology for dsm 7 1.24.4.5081-e362dc1ee
What am I doing wrong?
sorry DS220j and yes that’s the one I selected.
Thanks that got it started. Hopefully I can figure the rest out to see my library.
Interesting, I get the download is not packaged correctly and it fails to install
Yes, I just pointed plex to my media files and I have access to all.
Thanks for the quick help.
Having trouble with Plex server shutting down on its own, any help would be much appreciated.
What specific logs do you need from me?
Server # 1.24.4.5081-e362dc1ee
May I ask,
0. What exact version of PLEX am I looking for from plex.tv downloads? (running on Synology DS218+ …evidently with DSM 7.0-41890). Want to make sure I grab the correct one.
Sorry if these are stupid questions. I’ve been reading so much material in so many places/posts. REALLY gets confusing.
THANKS for all the help!
BTW, I spoke to a Synology rep (James) and voiced my surprise/disappointment that they continue to let users update to DSM7 without at least providing a word of warning that 3rd party apps might not work as-is with DSM7 and users should consult those sources BEFORE executing the update. James kindly offered up the fact that Synology and PLEX are totally different companies and Synology is not responsible for any problems caused.
To this I respectfully informed James that such a statement was irresponsible and totally over-simplifying things and Synology benefits greatly from a symbiotic relationship with PLEX and they likely sell many servers because of their PLEX compatibility. They need to provide a word of caution to users! (and save you guys a ton of grief/work helping us users recover from the problems caused).
Forgot to ask - if all my MEDIA FILES are safe from deletion during the Uninstall/Reinstall (using Token)? Or do I have to back them up before uninstalling? (Have 4TB of files I don’t want to lose!)
Thanks!

Before embarking on the upgrade to DSM 7, please do review these threads.
These are my latest informational documentation.
@ChuckPa Thank you for all the work you’ve done in this thread. Is there anywhere that you could post the precise instructions for upgrading from DSM6 to 7?
I know you’ve probably already done it but this thread is very long indeed and it’s hard to pick out the exact instructions.
Kind Regards
@ChuckPa It’s okay. I found it now. best Wishes.
Hello,
Having so much trouble with this.
I noticed the DSM 6 something needed repairing so I did it and it didn’t work. Then I noticed there was an upgrade available. I did the upgrade assuming it was the correct thing to do.
Plex didn’t work before so that’s why I did the repair. Plex definitely doesn’t work now.
Did all the plex uninstall reinstall stuff a bunch of times. Did all the permissions to the folders.
Nothing worked. Then I just went to access my video folder with all my thousands of movies and it is gone. What happened to it? Can I get it back. That was my main library of movies. I have other folders with some movies, other with books, and others with music. Those are still there. Losing my main movie folders is really concerning.
Please help.
Steve
Hi,
I’ve been trying to get Plex to work on my DS415play with DSM 7 for many times now.
In the beginning i just thougth that it was part of all the other DSM 7 and plex issues but now i’m not so sure.
every time i’ve downloaded the latest package (last try today with PlexMediaServer-1.24.3.5033-757abe6b4-armv7neon_DSM7)on plex.tv and tried to install it but every time i get the same error
i’ve tried all the available packages and several versions but it all turns out the same way.
my current DSM version is up-to-date with DSM 7.0-41882.
Any ideas and help would be most welcome.
The 415Play is a 32 bit Intel
From the Syno page:
DS415play Intel Atom CE5335 Dual Core 4 Yes Evansport DDR3 1 GB
Got my movies back. The whole folder had disappeared. I went through and removed a bunch of permissions and the folder reappeared.
That is a huge relief.
I still can’t get plex.tv work anymore. This upgrade is a huge headache. My NAS is a DS918+.
I’ve been through those instructions and any other suggestion I can find. Huge pain in the butt.
Synology changed the entire platform landscape from the developer standpoint.
I have done everything possible to make it as easy as possible but when you go from having the ‘system privileges’ to do things to having NONE, all the work normally done by the installer must be done by the user.
Given how long a migration takes, which I was able to automate, can you imagine that task manually? NOT FUN.
ChuckPa,
Is there a way to do it manually because it sure ain’t happening automatically.
No migration just installs in less than a minute and no connection. The dreaded Yield ! sign.
Hi, thanks for the hard work and info. Just to be sure about this before I go up to DSM 7 – it’s only server hardware HDR to SDR mapping that isn’t currently supported? Direct streaming HDR works as intended?
