Plex Media Server - Synology DSM 7 Preview - Issues ( Archive )

Hi @ChuckPa,
Unfortunately the old builds are not there any more. At least I am getting error 404.

Cheers

You didn’t keep the old SPK?

I can get them rebuilt but it will take a few hours

EDIT: I will need a full build. That will take a day to prepare. The build system is being heavily used by Engineering right now.

I have 3906 - ARMV8 here on hand (my development system)
I can also package locally if that’s acceptable

If you don’t have it, we can reinstall and use the claim token method to pull it back into your account.

@ChuckPa

Any Update on the builds? Cheers

I have kept the 3906-7000 x64 version
 let me know if you need it.

I’m running Plex version 1.21.0.3744 , that’s the first version to dsm 7 beta, how can you guys update it to a newer version ? Have I missed some information ?

@prosperot

If you can make the x86_64 binary for 3906-7000 available for everyone, that would be greatly appreciated.

@fArGo
I went to rebuild everything but, because I’ve submitted the entire package to QA, I can’t roll back to a specific date at this point. It’s all been grouped as one “commit” in the CM system. We can take your system and work on it in a separate thread.

@prosperot

Please. I canned my version and I can’t get it back. Now my system is down as the latest build is not working for me.

Ohh! Soo many thx to you :slight_smile:

@fArGo

Which machine (server) is giving you grief?

It might be time to

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Sign out of Plex/web
  3. Settings - Server - Authorized Devices - Server - REMOVE it
  4. Start PMS
  5. Now sign into it.

If that fails, I can get more fierce with it.

Also, we can set it up to export the logs to a shared folder
(I set it up so it would move existing logs to the new location – just for times like this)

here you go: PlexMediaServer-1.21.1.3906-b0c7a97d9-x86_64_DSM7.spk

@ChuckPa

I have been doing it like you described it. The export of the logs might not be a bad idea. We’re kind of in a catch 22 situation here when not being able to see the logs.

@prosperot
Downgrading to the 3906 version is unfortunately not working for me either. But thanks for the upload. At least we can rule out certain things.

Thanks

@fArGo

Let’s export the logs and see what it’s telling us.

After you install & set the target (remember to give user PlexMediaServer permission to write to that new shared folder location), manually create a ZIP file and attach it. (think back to how we did this in DSM 6 when PMS failed – same technique)

We can also make Plex.tv forget the server and then recreate it as you bring it back into your account. I can do it or you can (Settings - Server - Authorized Devices)

See attached after trying to install PlexMediaServer-1.21.3.3988-a090db7d3-x86_64_DSM7

PERFECT! :slight_smile:

What i’m seeing here is a properly running PMS – with one exception – it doesn’t know it belongs to you.

Let’s do a little hackery :slight_smile:

  1. Now that you have 3988
  2. Uninstall the package – KEEP option
  3. Reinstall the package - Use the Plex Claim Token method.
    a. click the “get claim token” hyperlink in the installer page.
    b. click “Copy to clipboard” from Plex.tv
    c. PASTE that token back into the claim token field in the installer page
    d. NEXT :slight_smile:

What it will do is

  1. Drop the existing credentials in the Preferences.xml file
  2. Reassert new ownership defined by the Claim Token
  3. Handshake / Log in with Plex.tv
  4. Establish itself as a server in your account.
  5. Let it start up.
  6. Open the server by LAN IP (http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web)

NOW, BE CAREFUL.

https://app.plex.tv - Settings - Authorized Devices - Server (dropdown)

  1. Look for two or more entries for this server (might not be multiple but need to check)
  2. Find the oldest entry/ies
  3. REMOVE them.
  4. Control-F5 fully & forcibly reload the Plex/web browser (or just close and re-open it)
  5. Open the server – it should be there waiting for you.

I’m working on a way to handle all this in the installer automatically.

I am NOT happy with the idea of rummaging around multiple windows
and hacking plex.tv lists.

In my development environment I can do the following so far:

  1. Find the server on Plex.tv (using the local Preferences.xml file)
  2. Go to Plex.tv and get the list of servers on the account.
  3. Sort through them and either delete this server’s entry or delete any duplicates.

I need to contemplate the repercussions of both actions.

To all:

Regarding recovering a server:

Q: How should the installer “clean up” ?

  1. Delete all the old server references ? (get rid of the old duplicates)
  2. Delete only this new server instance and recreate it ?
  3. Delete all entries for this server from Plex.tv

Caveat: Deleting the current server will also remove any sharing which has been established.

@ChuckPa

I think I might have deleted too much as I don’t see my own server name any more (Left hand side menu). Even though you told me to be careful :slight_smile:

I do see my two friends servers though.

So I uninstalled and unclaimed the server and redid installation again (token way).
image

Now the authorised devices looks like this, only my computer browser, phoone and the server (prior to that there where +50 devices and browsers)
image

But my server, on the side menu is still missing and I believe this is due to user error. Unclaim server/deleted wrong authorised server Not sure.

When I used the “keep” uninstallation method the first time first time (before deleting all authorised devices) the initiation screen showed up. It didn’t do that the second time.

Sorry for the delay: I had to cook evening meal for the family.

The “Successfully claimed by” message is good.

The “Got It” is expected behavior. I make certain you see that when claiming.
It’s how you can confirm it’s claimed.

Let’s get all the other tokens in sync again (make Plex/web happy)

Stop PMS, wait 30 seconds, and start it.
While it’s restarting,

  1. Sign out of Plex/web (upper right corner)
  2. Close the browser
  3. Open the browser
  4. Open http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web
  5. Sign in

PS:

You do need to give user PlexMediaServer permission to Read/Write the “Recorded TV” shared folder.

Feb 18, 2021 18:43:42.614 [0x7f29e25a1700] ERROR - Couldn’t check for the existence of file “/volume1/Recorded TV/.grab”: boost::filesystem::status: Permission denied: “/volume1/Recorded TV/.grab”

Hi ChuckPa,

Does that mean, new builds will be posted on the other post for now like how you are doing it now?

Sorry if I didn’t write that too clearly. The hour was very late when we got done.

  1. The binary packages will build with the main PMS releases as it gets built. This is how it will be under normal conditions (when we are fully production status).

  2. For this first (next) build of PMS, I will provide the links to download – one last time.

  3. After everyone has had opportunity to verify the builds are good, I will then submit the last change request. That change request will be to add DSM 7 packages to the Downloads page.

Sorry for the late feedback. Life came in between. Tried several variants and I just cant make it get it up and running properly. Would you thing a complete uninstal would change anything?

Cheers
