Plex Media Server - Synology DSM 7 Preview - Issues ( Archive )

@Parity

When did you last scrub the volume?

@ChuckPa I think it must have been a few weeks ago - a month at most.

OK…

I will write the steps for you and send via PM.

Please give me a few.

You may reboot DSM. (blue button time)

Thank you!

OK, baffling problem I need help with. Uninstalled PLEX, moved PLEX directory to a different folder. Have DSM 7 running (DSM 7.0.41890) on my Synology DS1815+.

Downloaded the appropriate file from

Synology (DSM 7) Choose package for my model ARMv7 (x15 Series (excluding DS115j and RS815), x16 Series (excluding DS216se), x17 Series, x18 Series, and DS414j)

When I try to do a MANUAL INSTALL in Package Center, I get the message “This package is not supported on the platform of DiskStation or is incompatible with the current DSM version”.

What am I doing wrong?

CJ

"This package is not supported on the platform… "

You accidentally grabbed the wrong file.

There are two. ARMv7hf and ARMv7neon.

Also make sure you grab DSM 7 and not DSM 6.

DS1815+ is X86_64

Yep, got it. I selected SYNOLOGY (DSM 7) from the pull down, then clicked CHOOSE PACKAGE. I selected the package for the DS1815+ and I get the error noted. If I need to select a different package, which one should I pick?

Intel 64-bit

The one you selected at the bottom is specific to ARMv7 systems.

Control Panel - Info Center will confirm the CPU for you

Thank you. I see that now in your original response. I’ll give that a shot.

That got it. I can’t believe I was making a huge stupid user mistake. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

You should see some of the mistakes I make !
( like the RIGHT password … on the WRONG system… so I reset the whole box )

Chuck - the upgrade path worked 100% first time for me. Only thing is the wording - I never had an option for local vs system user. Just click on the previous “Plex” user, changed it to PlexMediaServer, applied and thats it. Thanks for the hard work.

Yes, it’s become apparent there are a few really tiny adjustments needed.

I fixed the documentation today.

The “Local User” → “System Internal User” seems to be what’s confusing.

Thankfully it is at least in the documentation…

-AND-

This is a one-time ordeal.

ah ok, well the answer its no.

I was doing additional tests on my network, I setup another server on a Linux desktop, and play the same content from Synology on the same nvidia shield and everything works fine. So I’m guessing the issue are on PMS server on my Synology not in the nvidia shield player .

the issue persists, I delete and reinstall the plex client on shield and the issue persists. not sure what else I can do

@hollman

Ok, please create a new thread.

In that thread,

  1. Please verify debug logging is enabled and verbose is disabled (save if changes)
  2. Recreate the problem.
  3. Download the logs ZIP file
  4. Attach it in the that new thread .
  5. Ping trumpy or myself.

Thinking outloud…

I wonder if a corrective step here is:

  1. File Station
  2. Right-click “Plex” share (left side)
  3. Properties
  4. Force reset ownership for user Plex – This folder, sub-folders, and files.

I will investigate

I appreciate your advice. In your opinion, is there one link or one source where I can click to which are good for beginners like myself?

PlexMediaServer-1.23.3.4707-ebb5fe9f3-x86_64_DSM7.spk will not install.

Invalid File Format. Please contact the package developer.

Anyone else having this issue?

Downloaded this from a Plex Prompt, should be the right version?

@SteveSc

Which DSM firmware version do you have installed ?

Which “Plex Prompt” please ?

Package Center ? Plex.tv/downloads ?

Which browser is in use?

DSM Version

Getting the package from here

Using up-to-date Brave browser and doing a manual install in Package Center. Always worked fine in the past.
