Hey ChuckPa. First, thank you for all you’re doing here. It is MUCH appreciated. I migrated using your instructions last night. Everything went well. Everything was running great with users watching content. But I woke up this morning to an offline Plex Media Server. Looking at the Synology Package it said “Manually Stopped”. I checked the logs and it seems that it crashed about 4 minutes after the 2:00a maintenance window. I hit run on the package and every started up fine and is running again. Maybe a one time fluke. I’ll keep an eye on it and see if it happens again tonight. I’ve attached the system log from that period. It abruptly ends at 2:04a.
You turned off DEBUG logging , thinking you were saving space ?
Logs are fixed size. (5 files - 10 MB each)
With exception of this – which is a VERY good indicator, there’s nothing else I can debug.

Problems shown here:
More than 8192 directories being watched – NOT a problem; easily remedied
The database / something needs cleaning up (400ms for 30 items is excessive). The DB should provide 500-1000 items in 15-20 ms.
Solutions:
Cleaning up the DB – Optimize the DB after you Empty Trash and Clean Bundles. Also make certain these run during Scheduled Maintenance times.
We have a How-To to adjust that 8192 folder limit (it’s a linux limit).
I just read through this whole thread and I still don’t know what direction to follow. I just upgraded my DSM to 7. I logged back in, I was told by the UX to upgrade PLEX. Fine, did that, was told permissions needed to be granted. Fine, did that. Now it says “Failed to repair ‘Plex Media Server’ blah blah blah see the forums”.
Reading all of this just confused me more – what am I supposed to do, now that I’ve gotten this far, to enable my plex server once again?
It’s in the “Plex Media Server - Install” screen inside of DSM where the upgrade took place. It put up an alert box giving me a System error 0 for settings.
After I had done the DSM6->7 upgrade, at the top of my installed packages was an “Attention Required” message telling me to upgrade my plex, and that’s how I got here.
Hi, sorry if this is the wrong place (newbie) I installed dsm 7 plex, and now do not have a plex share user in my ftp settings or control panel permsiions?
The dificulty is that I was using cif shares to my vuplus enigma box to connect to my hard drive where all my programmes and movies are located on the enigma box.
Now one of two plea’s. Either I’m doing a connection wrong to the enigma box (on same network (example please)) or is there a full guide on installing the plex server (beginners) on dsm 7, allowing access to another network share on an enigma box. Any help would be really, really grateful. Many thanks!
After deleting PLEX, I got to the packages section and search for PLEX. I get a UI that says “join beta” where the “install” would be. clicking that does an install.
I added 12956 songs (219000 metadata files for all media).
Migrate time was 40 minutes on the ARMv8 (DS418j)
You’re between a rock and a hard place now.
I can help you through this – but no guarantees.
Best case – it’s one bad metadata file – which SHOULD have blown up hours ago with ERR_MAXPATH…
Worst case – the file system is corrupt
Middle ground – you never cleaned out before and are paying for it now.
I can force it. You will then need inspect everything. If you find a section is bad – you must delete that library section and perform a proper cleanup before re-creating.
@ChuckPa - I’m up for it! I’m not sure that I have too many other options, haha!
I’m about 18 hours into the migration, so it must be some bad metadata. The file system should be okay, as I ran a check on that not too long ago (I have various checks scheduled to run at a set schedule).
