Plex Media Server "This site can’t be reached" after NAS DSM upgrade to 7

Server Version#: DSM 7
Player Version#: 1.24.5.5173-7000
\

Hello Team,

I am finding many topics here that you guys have helped users with this issue but for some reason I can’t seems to be able to read the moderator comments on how were they able to help out and only that end users are saying thank you so much for the help and fix.

My issue here is that after I upgraded to DSM 7 NAS 720+ each time I click on the Plex Media Server a browser will open but than it will not load the Pleax and display “This site can’t be reached”. from the topics it seems to be that for DSM 7 on my NAS I Need to manually open port * TCP: 32400 (access to the Plex Media Server) [required]. The problem here is that I am a noob and I have no idea how to open that port in my NAS firewall or wherever is required to be open. I would greatly appreciate any help and steps on how to. Please know that not everyone is tech savvy here so be easy on me.

Thank you,
Niko

Which version of PMS is installed? (important first step)

Next, if you’re on DSM 7, and the server is on the same network with you (physically accessible), we can use one of the features built into the new DSM 7 packaging.

Hello PMS is 1.24.5.51-73-7000 but I have tried with older versions as well and same after upgrade to DSM 7. I have installed it manually but I also have try other versions as well.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look into it. Much appreciated.

Thank you,
Niko

Since you have PMS 1.24.5 installed, we can manually grab the log files. This will let me get a better idea what’s happening.

  1. Open FileStation

  2. Navigate into the PlexMediaServer shared folder

  3. AppData → Plex Media Server

  4. Right-Click LogsCompress to Logs.zip

  5. When that completes, download it (click it)

  6. Upload that file here for me to review.

Hello,

Thank you so much for taking the time.

Logs.zip (113.6 KB)

Thank you,

I’m very sorry for not replying sooner. For some reason, the forum did not notify me.

How are you attempting to open the Syno?

http://192.168.1.244:32400/web ?

Have you tried it using an incognito window?

Hello @ChuckPa ,

Please don’t worry, I am not expecting anyone to help me out here. I really do appreciate your time and effort.

I have tried both http://192.168.1.244:32400/web in incognito & regular.

I have also tried directly from the plex app in the NAS.

I have also tried the beta version provided from the NAS as well as the most recent one provided by Plex. I am currently running the most recent one I manually downloaded and installed it from Plex site.

Thank you,
Niko

Using the one from the SYnology Package Center will create problems.

Also, the first time you upgrade to the latest PMS version, startup time will take several minutes ( a major database upgrade which is in the Plex Media Server announcementts - Release Notes)

Also be advised – you cannot switch from BETA PMS (Package Center) to Public or PlexPass without getting involved with the process. BETA from Package Center is not compatible with DSM 7.0.1 released. ( I just sent Synology more updates… I hope they update Package Center soon because everyone needs it )

Please tell me what stage you’re at ?

Is your metadata still in the Plex shared folder

Hello @ChuckPa ,

I am not sure what are you asking by saying in what stage I am?

Once I tried the beta and it didn’t work I uninstalled it and got the most recent one from Plex site (the current version you are seeing in the snips).

I am not sure also about the meta data you are asking for. I just know that in the past I was able to use Plex and now it doesn’t want to load. I have made Plex read & write as well.

If I just have to wait until Synology fix it I will wait ( I got no other option). I think Synology major dropped the ball on this one and it will impacted their sells because people are already posting so much negative about them just for the Plex Server reason.

Thank you,
Niko

Look in the “Plex” shared folder –

Do you still have “Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server” with files and folders underneath that

-or-

did you start over with DSM 7?

Hello @ChuckPa ,

Sorry for late response was away for Thanksgiving.

I am not exactly sure what you are asking me. Before upgrade to dsm 7 version the Plex worked fine.

I do not have “Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server”

@ChuckPa ,

Wonder if you have any other suggestions for me

Thanks

sorry for the delay… Forum notifications aren’t working correctly

Stop Plex

Go into PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server

Right-click “Logs” → Compress to logs.zip

Grab that ZIP file and upload here please
