Plex Media Server Unavailable on Whatbox

Server Version#: 1.15.4.994
Player Version#: Not available on AppleTV, IoS, Plex Web and all clients on latest versions
Logs: I have downloaded the logs but it’s a lot of data and I don’t know which section is relevant to post. Can do so with some direction and help from y’all.

I have a plex server hosted on/by Whatbox, which I’ve been using for months without any issues whatsoever. As of recently, I notice that I am unable to connect to the server with my AppleTV and then I check on my iPhone and on my laptop and it’s not available on all devices. I then log into my Whatbox account and restart the server from within their account management console and after a short time, the server becomes available again.

I’ve searched the forums but I’ve never been on here before and there are a lot of similar posts but nothing that seemed the same to me.

Any assistance with what from the logs I can post in hopes of determining the issue would be totally appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

Please make sure you have DEBUG logging enabled and VERBOSE logging disabled.

The next time it does this, immediately after restart, capture a normal set of logs

Attach the ZIP file it gives you here and we’ll see what is going on.

Thank you for the reply.

I do have “Enable Plex Media Server debug logging” marked and “Enable Plex Media Server verbose logging” unmarked.

I honestly can’t recall if I grabbed these logs before or after restarting but this is what I have at the moment.

If these logs aren’t helpful let me know and I will still keep an eye on the server for a recurrence. I have other folks accessing this server so I will need to let them know to alert me if they can’t connect.

Also, I just noticed that a new update was released and figured I should hold off applying before identifying the issue. The thought being that maybe this update would specifically address an issue that could be causing my server to become unavailable.

I am seeing Gentoo. We have never tested on Gentoo so YMMV.
Also, You can turn off IPv6 in network settings. It doesn’t do anything yet except make debugging messy plus you aren’t using V6. all your addresses are IPv4.

Other than that, I see no reason for it to Stop

I do see others streaming from it. Did you lose control of it to someone else / is it on a different account?

Hello.

Thank you for taking a look.

I have turned off IPv6 as suggested, which apparently is enabled by default.

Yes, others are streaming from it as I’ve shared my libraries with their active Plex accounts.

No, I do not believe that I’ve lost control of it to anyone and nobody has the login for it and the administrator account is my Plex pass account.

I will run the update and have notified the few users who I’ve shared the libraries with to let me know if they see issues.

I haven’t had any issues with since I started running it on Whatbox, which has been for several months so thought it might be related to a recent update.

I will post back if the issue persists.

Thanks again for the support.

Ok, it just happened again.

I did open a ticket with Whatbox and they’ve bumped me back to version 1.15.3.876 and have stated if I continue to have the issue, then they will downgrade me to 1.14. They’ve told me that they have had more tickets opened on Plex since 1.15.

Here are the logs from right after I restarted the app and the libraries became available again.

Thanks. I see it now.

You’re experiencing what others are. Engineering is aware and trying to isolate and fix now.

If you can go to 1.14.1.5488, you will be stable.

Is this being tracked anywhere that can be monitored, ChuckPA?

It’s being tracked internally. Plex never has been one to publish its bug list.

Could we assist at all with debugging? We would be very glad to assist in any way with troubleshooting these new issues in 1.15.x. We can provide you (Plex devs) with one of our jailed Gentoo environments. Experimental patches can be tested on a number of users, customer support provided for your development cycle, answer detailed questions about dependencies, etc.

Send a PM if there is any interest in establishing contact.

On an unrelated note, the Copy to Clipboard button on https://www.plex.tv/claim appears to be broken.

They know what’s causing the problem. I don’t think they’ve figured out how to correct it yet.

as for the unrelated, please open a new thread in general topics.

Hello Chuck.

I see that 1.16 is out and wondering if the issues I and others were experiencing with the 1.15 series have been identified and resolved in the 1.16?

Wanted to verify before I go upgrading and have issues again.

Thank you.
Nate

Nate,
I’ve not had time to review all the changes in 1.16.1 (there are many).

I had been focusing on the packaging development. What I’ve completed, which is now in Forum Preview, is a universal packaging tool set.

My goal with this universal packaging is to have only two dependencies:

  1. glibc_2.14.1 (or current plex minimum at that time)
  2. A compatible package manager (currently have DEB packing but am completing RPM packaging at this time)

The thread is here: New Linux installer - Forum preview & beta testing

As soon as I have a newer 1.16.1 Plex-signed build, I will be updating and offering those binaries on that page.

The Plex-signed build I have is 1.16.1.1227. It’s slightly ahead of what is now public but should work well enough to know where you stand. AFAIK, the only changes since 1227 are in the EPG and Metadata areas .

If you would like, please join the thread, please do and let me know.

Further, I can provide an unsigned packaging of PMS which uses the new installer if this is of any help.
