Click on download the update and that seems to work but then the " The server “Plex-PC” is installing an update
Grab a cup of tea. This may take a couple of minutes."
phase just spins it’s wheels, i left if for 20mins and it still said applying. This is on Windows 10.
Only option seems to be manual but that only offers install not update, don’t really wanna risk having to redo my database of 1000’s of files given plex is a pita for overwriting metadata with information i deem wrong even if locked is selected.
I had the exact same issue with an NAS 12TB by Western Digital. This is how I solved the issue and what occurred:
downloaded version 1.15.2.793 on Apr 2, 2019 onto the NAS drive
logged into WD NAS 12TB panel and chose under App Store “Install An App Manually” as i have always done. Newbies: Plex was already installed and that is fine. This is an update that will wipe out the previous version, not your settings
I then get update failed notice. Uggh.
I copy the file (BIN file) from the NAS to my local C drive, same error. Purpose here was I eliminated the NAS folder where the BIN was located as being part of the issue such as file permissions, security settings, etc… I then opted to download the file again (a second time) and compare “BYTES”. damn thing was off by one single byte. the first download was 103,336 bytes the second download was 103,335 so I knew there was a difference and oddly one byte less than ‘more’ as some of you might expect. I applied the update using the method above and walla! update installed successfully (the file with 103,335 was correct). With such a large file I wish a PAR2 file was part of the download to do a repair (PAR is a free software that allows a user to upload an original file along with PAR files to repair and safeguards against corruption. And yes its ultimately larger overall, but we all could have avoided this issue. Alternatively, PLEX should state the exact SIZE of this update in BYTES not MB so we all know if we got the whole thing or some aborted incomplete portion thereof. Working on computers since 1989 has taught me all kinds of stuff…ideally…never give up!
This has nothing to do with Servers, i’m talking the straight Windows plex software update.
I run Plex on a QNAP and the update on that has never worked always have to do it manually which invariably wipes some of the locked metadata.
Anyway it’s not a vital update so i’m just gonna skip it, seems there’s issues anyway going by what some others are reporting
