Synology Version#: 7.0-41890 (Diskstation 218Play)
PSM Version#: 1.23.6.4881-7000
Player Version#: (unsure, irrelevant to the problem I think?)
Hi everyone, I noticed there are more people with the same issue that I have, but since none of the solutions given in those topics were fixing the issue for me, I thought I’d make a separate topic after all.
The thing is, I recently updates my Synology DSM software to version 7.0-41890, and noticed I couldn’t get into my Plex Media Server anymore. Initially I figured to just update PSM to the latest available version as well (1.23.6.4881-7000). Since that didn’t solve the issue I started reading up on the topics regarding the issue, and noticed I had to change certain permissions, which I tried to follow to the letter.
I removed all settings from PSM and reinstalled from scratch.
I then gave PSM R/W access to the Movies and TV Shows via the File Station app.
Then I added these 2 folders, who are nót in my “plex” folder but actual separate folders, to the PSM.
But even after doing all that, it doesn’t seem to fix the issue… so I’m hoping someone here might be able to shine some light on it. Hopefully it’ll either be clear to me what I’m doing wrong, or clear to someone else that there’s a different issue alltogether
I added some screenshots below to show the settings I currently have. Thank you for any possible help!
The second screenshot, where you have the permissions listed, is wrong. You should NOT have a “plex” user. In the “local users” dropdown, select “System internal user” and apply permissions to the PlexMediaServer account. That is the correct and only way to do it.
Remove the “plex” user. Completely. Forget it ever existed.
Try that as the first step to see if it resolves the issue, or at least gets you further.
Hi @philrigby, thanks for the reply. Plex created that user by itself actually, but I should delete it nonetheless? And where do I find "System Internal User? I don’t seem to have that one anywhere… I only have Admin, Guest, My own user account, and Plex so far?
And thanks, I’ll take a look at the link you shared as well
Ohhh, what a sneaky little bugger, hahah! Thanks a million, that instantly solved the issue… after changing the settings there, even with the “Plex” user still available, and hit “Scan Library Files” in the PSM settings, it instantly started adding all my media.
Geez… I’ve been breaking my head over this for the past few days, and completely missed that System Internal User setting. Thanks again!
No problem. When everything is settled down, get rid of that “plex” user to prevent confusion in the future and take a look at the links I sent you for further points on cleaning up and making sure it’s all as it should be.
I will, thanks! Just to be absolutely sure, I can delete the Plex user, even though PSM added that user on its own after I did a complete clean install of it?
Did you have Plex on before and remove it? If so, it’s probably a hang-over from that. I just did a clean install of PMS on my NAS (factory reset this morning) and I have no such user.
I did uninstall it and told DSM to get rid of everything (settings, users and the like)… it also removed the plex user I previously had there, so I assumed the new PMS install added it on its own.
Strange, but I deleted it just now and everything’s still working perfectly fine, so I guess it didn’t hurt. Pretty happy that it’s working again, since that silly DLNA-streaming just wasn’t doing it for me
