Plex can not "see" my media folders

Server Version#: 4.98.2
Player Version#: any

After the update to DSM 7 I have had to try try try to get Plex to recognize my media folders.

For example. I have:

/volume1/video/Workouts
/volume1/video/TVShows

When I try to add a library I can get as far as:
/volume1/video

But in the plex server interface I can not see any folders beyond the “video” folder.

I have already made good and certain plex has all the permissions it needs to acces the folders. I can access them in every other manner except through plex.

EDIT: SO I THOUGHT. I had actually given the old regular user “Plex” all the permissions it needs which doesn’t help any. I needed to make a new rule, as mentioned in FAQ30 (and all over everywhere) to give “system internal user PlexMediaServer” permissions instead. I was so hung up on “regular user Plex” that I kept assuming that’s what I was doing. ****

Please someone halp!

I have uninstalled and reinstalled.

Suggest you move your files to a location other than /volume1/video. From the Installation & Setup of Plex Media Server on Synology support document.

We urge you to NEVER USE the predefined video, music, or photo shares that Synology created. These shares are owned by Synology’s Video Station, Audio Station, and Photo Station products.

Starting with DSM 7, Plex now runs under the system internal user (not “regular” user) PlexMediaServer. Make sure it has at least read only access to the files.

Edit: See FAQ 30 in ChuckPA’s post.

I see now.

Jesus that was a lot for a very straightforward thing.
I saw where it said to give plex the permissions it needs, but did not see where it went from plex as a user, to plex as a system internal user.

I gave it the permissions it needed, and I’m pretty sure we’re in

Thanks again everyone. I thought I’d read through everything to lead to this answer that I now see EVERYWHERE.

I set this up idk, YEARS ago and haven’t messed with it. Guess I’m beyond rusty at this point. Thanks again, I feel foolish.

There were a lot of Synology imposed changes when moving from DSM 6 to DSM 7.

The System Internal Users are new for DSM 7, and they’re not visible like regular user accounts.

It tripped up a lot of people.

FYI, now that the NAS is on DSM 7, the user plex and the shared folder plex are no longer required by Plex Media Server. You can delete them, use them for other purposes, or just leave them be. It does not matter as far as Plex Media Server is concerned.

I deleted everything for that reinstallation I did after botching it the first time. So I was baffled when the new installation didn’t generate or ask for a “Plex” user account and shared folder

thanks again
