Plex Metadata bugs

Server Version#: 4.158.0

This issue has been covered previously at Plex loading incorrect version of Chronicles of Narnia (1988) from TVDB

Plex will not supply the correct information for the BBC series Chronicles of Narnia (1988).

In order to get Plex to accept. the three seasons, each had to be placed it its own follder by the name of the season. They did not list as seperate series, but as 3 seasons to the Series, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I had to manually enter all the metadata for seasons 2 and 3.

Is there a way to submit corrections to the Plex databases?

I would start by adjusting the naming to match Plex‘s schema / naming conventions.

TV Shows <- the folder linked to your library
  Show Name (year of release)
    Season XX
Show Name (year of release) - sXXeYY - optional episode title.ext

Where XX and YY are the season and episode numbers, ext being the file extension.

Based on the data I’ve found on watch.plex.tv, there might be some additional confusion. Plex seems to get alternative versions of the show where each season is a separate show (or all episodes released as a single movie, grouped as collection).
If you’re having trouble, matching the correct version, you might try to include a matching hint in the show’s name or to manually match it using the TMDb or TVDb ID instead (e.g. {tmdb-13793})

I just made a folder in my Testing library. I created a folder names “The Chronicles of Narnia (1988)”, under that I created 3 seasons. Seasons 01, 02 and 03. I coped 6 test files into each folder. My library defaults to TMDB & TMDB episode ordering.
At first glance, it seems to have matched just fine. I checked on TMDB and there are external IDs entered so it should be able to the TVDB ordering if that is needed.

It pretty late here. I’ll try looking at it more tomorrow.

This is the TMDB page I was using to check things.

Chronicles of Narnia (1988)

Placing. them in the normal arrangement results in Seasons 2 and three absent any poster graphics for both the seasons and episodes, as well as no episode titles or descriptions. Separating them as above at least gave me the graphics.

Note also that the Series is titled, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as opposed to the series title, Chronicles of Narnia.

Plex used to let us use thetvdb, which maintains its database better.

I may have named the folder “Chronicles of Narnia (1988)” but it is showing up as “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”

I’m getting posters and identifications for each season

Double checked the external IDs on TMDB and compared them to the TVDB entries. The all seem to be correct. The only differences is that TVDB has a Specials directory with behind the scenes stuff and other tidbits. I will also point out that it is named “The Chronicles of Narnia” on TVDB as well.

Ok, there is a problem that Plex needs to fix. If I try choosing TVDB aired ordering, nothing is matching. At some point, TVDB must have changed the series ID. I’m seeing these GUIDs

Guid id=“imdb://tt0094500”
Guid id=“tmdb://13793”
Guid id=“tvdb://388535”
Guid id=“tvdb://78930”

78930 is the correct one. Unfortunately, Plex will use the first one to try and match to. Plex needs to clean this up on their back-end.

My only solution has been to split them into individual series with one season each, naming them by their Season title. This worked with only. minor metadata corrections.

Or just use TMDB matching.

I believe this is where the problem is coming from. TVDB also has this page, where I think you your title from. It lists only 1 season and its where that other GUID is coming from
