plex metadata issue

Is anyone else having issues where episodes aren’t getting episode names and descriptions starting today? It was working fine and then today it isn’t working. Its happening on all my plex servers (2 windows servers and 1 linux).

Yep, same here.

When I go in to the “Agents” settings for the server, everything is defaulted to the “personal media” option. If I change, for example, Shows to use TheTVDB, and then go back to the home page, and then go back and look at the Agents again, it’s back to “personal media”. Same thing happens when changing any of the media types (e.g. Movies, Music, etc.)

Same here as well. I’m on PMS 1.3.4.3285, how about everyone else?

Edit: I have a feeling there is an API change at TheTVDB

Same. It was doing it on the last version also. I upgraded the server this morning to see if it might be fixed in the newest release.

Linux = 1.3.4.3285
Windows 1 = 1.2.0.3167
Windows 2 = 1.3.2.3112

I’m having the same issues starting early this morning 3AM CST. Did multiple refreshes and it fixed itself. Same issue persisting now and refreshing is not correcting it like earlier.

Here you go. As I mentioned earlier, the agent being used for all of the media types keeps defaulting back to “personal media” even though I have manually changed it to TheTVDB for Shows multiple times. I have also tried changing Movies to use The Movie Database, but it keeps reverting back to Personal Media also.

You have many potential issues here:

Z:\WWE\WWE Friday Night SmackDown!\Season 18\WWE SmackDown! - S18E01 - Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens & Sheamus.mp4

  1. There is no show called ‘WWE SmackDown!’ (check: http://thetvdb.com/ - you’ll see you need to find/name your items better

  2. even if there was you have the episode named differently than the folder structure
2a) there is no season 18 for WWE Friday Night Smackdown
2b) there is no ‘!’ in the name at all

  3. is ‘Z:\WWE’ a TV Show Library?

For some of these items you can:

  1. Place in a Season 00 folder and name them as Specials:
    https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220707-Naming-TV-Show-Specials-

A TV Show Library/
…WWE Friday Night Smackdown/
…Season 00/
…WWE Friday Night Smackdown - S00EXX - Name your item what it is.xxx

or join TVDB, research and create proper show names with the correct episodes. Better have some research to back you up - what you ‘think’ may be valid may not be valid.

MP4/M4V files could contain embedded Title Fields that Plex will read and throw off a proper file name match. In this case remove said bogus Title Field data or (easier) move Local Media Assets to the bottom of every Agent list you can lay your hands on. Drag and Drop. Leave ‘enabled’, just demote. This will instruct Plex to stop giving Bogus Titles inside MP4/M4V files tip-top priority:

You are ‘trying’ to remain compliant with your file names. That’s good. You just need to refine your TVDB searches and/or start employing the use of Special Seasons (00) or join up and straighten things out over there at TVDB (and if they don’t listen throw them onto a folding banquet table that isn’t sawed almost in half).

Mine is missing metadata also, it’s still set for thetvdb, but not getting results.
All my episodes are named correctly, it’s just not doing it correctly. (Sickbeard auto naming.)

HAHA! I actually can’t stand WWE. My wife, however, is a die hard fan.

Thanks for taking a look at the logs.

The WWE stuff isn’t available on TheTVDB, so using the old Metabrowser software, I generate XBMC style .nfo files for those shows. As a side note, The TVDB doesn’t permit “sports” shows from being added/updated any more.

This got me to thinking though. I added an XBMC metadata agent plugin to Plex a long time ago specifically for the WWE stuff. At the time, I was transitioning from XBMC to Plex, and I didn’t want to mess with manually entering episode data for all of the WWE shows. So this morning, I removed the XBMC plugin, and just for good measure, I removed the WWE library (which was configured as TV Shows).

Unfortunately, still no metadata is being downloaded for any new regular TV Shows.

I am still thinking the issue has to do with the agents, though. Even after shutting down PMS, and removing the XBMC plugin and restarting, the agent for Shows keeps changing back to “Personal Media”. Again, I changed it to “TheTVDB”, tried to do a library update, and when I went back to the server settings, the agent had once again reverted to personal media.

My next step is probably going to be to completely remove the TV Shows library, empty trash, and then add it back to see what happens. I have little confidence that will fix the issue, but who knows. I can’t do that until tomorrow, though because I’m swamped with work today.

Ugh! LOL

Edit: fixed the word “Metabrowser”
