Plex Mix not as good as Google Music's Instant Mix?

Former google music user who finally got fed up with “radio” and “subscribe!” – so I grabbed a Plex Pass to try it out. The tracking where I was in a song or playlist is full of win, but the plex mix… not so hot. Seeding on the same songs I seed google music’s instant mixes from – google does a better job. It’ll have an occasional case of fail, but I’ll throw out half or more of the plex mixes. It is dissapointing to say the least.

Now, I know google does take thumbs ratings into account on its mixes. My plex install is new so has no stars. Do I just need to suck it up and star songs and albums and Plex Mix will become magic, or is it going to stay not-so-smart?

Probably going to stay not so smart. I believe the Plex Mix is controlled by a proprietary algorithm owned by Gracenote. I don’t think Plex has any control or influence over it. If I’m wrong, hopefully someone will correct me, but I think that’s how it is.

That’s a real shame.

No, it is a plex software limitation: https://developer.gracenote.com/rhythm-api

The api has feedback for thumbs up, down on track and artist, plus mood tags you can hit the playlist with.
