PLEX Movie Agent

Can someone explain how the Plex Movie agent works? I understand that Rotten Tomatoes ratings and IMDB ratings are used to give every individual video a rating, but why can’t Plex Movie only use Rotten Tomatoes? If they are using an API for each, just use the Rotten Tomato rating. It makes an otherwise growing movie library look visually weird.

Any thoughts?

check out the agent / library settings. with Plex Movie selected, you can configure the preferred sources for cast lists, ratings, plot summary (library: Edit > Advanced – overwrites defaults for this agent).

From what I understand this is a preference… so if this specific source won’t return details, Plex moves to one of the others (e.g. falling back to IMDB rating over RT).

What do you think, should PLEX change to just Rotten Tomatoes or keep the current structure?

Personally… I don’t really care so much
I do like the Rotten Tomatoes ratings for it’s duality (reviewer’s rating + audience rating). Others might prefer IMDB… so it’s nice to be able to choose.

Is anyone currently getting any rating data for movies added on Plex? For the past few days, I haven’t got any metadata. Is Plex Movie down?

Sometimes the agent runs into a timeout from the online databases (e.g. IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes).
You can try refreshing the metadata for those individual movies some time later.

I have done this in the past and will continue to do that. I’m concerned because it has not lasted this long. I’m currently monitoring two days.

Remember that pms caches the metadata it downloads, so if that data is missing the ratings info, no number of refreshes will fix it. You need to clear the agent cache so it will regrab that data.

I understand. How do you clear the agent cache so it can regrab that data?

Keep in mind, I am using NVIDIA SHIELD as a PMS.

Oh, that’s a wrinkle. You can’t clear the cache on the Shield. So you only solution would be to Plex Dance the files.
