Server Version#:Version 1.42.2.10156
Player Version#:irrelavent
I’ve come across an issue suddenly where the Sophos UTM9 firewall has somehow started blocking DNS requests or something for Plex.tv. I thought it was the Plex server on my QNAP NAS so removed and re-added.
Now I keep getting STUPID messages like “Version 1.42.2.10156 An update is available. Please install manually.” when that file is literally the same damn version. It also completely ignores my clicking the “claim server” option (greys and spins then just stops rinse and repeat).
I finally got “live tv” playing nice by temporarily adding 1.1.1.1 as the primary DNS with UTM9 being the secondary but nothing seems to be able to find this server that until today was working extremely sweet. I don’t know what the hell changed to start this.
After more play it appears a DNS issue, for whatever reason, Sophos UTM9 has taken a major exception to the domain plex.tv and is blankly refusing to resolve DNS for it. Nothing was touched in the router/firewall/dhcp/dns except for adding a host entry for the tv that’s entered our domain.
It all worked a week ago (been away for a week due to a friend passing in hospital) with like I say no changes so I’m lost why that resolution is suddenly an issue. Setting 42.x.x.x (first in nslookup list) as a dns host allowed the windows client to see the QNAP server and QNAP server to finally claim but the PS5 is not having any part of that dns host work around.
So I am all ears if anyone has suggestions. It’s not even a DNAT issue, it’s just literally picked up an exception recently to the domain. It will forward for anything else eg sony.com to 1.1.1.1 like it’s meant to, so I’m lost. Guessing the logs have less influence with the new info?
What the actual issue it turned out was, we got a huge 4k tv gifted because it’s wifi adapter is temperamental and like a goose I named it “tv” in DNS on the firewall. Now the DHCP resolution had issues because it was seeing “*.tv” as being hosted by our lounge room tv. Removing the “tv” dns name and only having “lounge-tv” instead then a reboot of the router and all devices net an instant result.
I feel like a goose for that over-sight but figure at my expense I’m sure others will have this issue and hopefully this will help them sooner.
