I recently updated to DSM 7.0.1 from DSM 6.2. I followed recommended step by installing plex before the update and then reinstalling and fixing the permission for the shared folders. Even then my plex did not fully come back and I need to re-add my library folders. It re-scanned everything and for the most part everything is back except for the small fixes certain shows, But now it will not detect intro for shows that I know had intos before. I made sure plexemediaserver had full permisions and even tried uninstalling and reinstalling plex a few times. Please help
This appears to have been resolved. Fortunately when upgrading I didnt realize my metadata was in the same folder as my media. When upgrading DSM and reinstlling Plex it created a new share called plexmediaserver. I stopped the plex service. Deleted the plex media server folder and copied my original plex media server folder to this new location and started services. Needed to claim the plex server after I started plex but appears everything is how I left it before the upgrad
From your description, and made the mistake of copying your data manually.
The automation written into the installer to handle the moving of metadata from the Plex shared folder to the new PlexMediaServer shared folder exists for multiple reasons:
Ownership of all files changed because DSM 7 forced a new username
ACLs needed to be rewritten because Plex doesn’t install itself on DSM 7. Package Center does everything -AND- at a non-privileged level.
Is Plex able to detect your intros, generate thumbnails, and proper transcode video?
At this point, having manually moved the data, you can’t be certain that all files will work (which is why the automation exists)
I didnt originally copy the meta data. It didnt move my settings over at all I followed these instructions which seemed like it would be ok considering I didnt want to re-point the library from what I had seen on some videos
Since it didnt fine my videos initially I re-added my libraries which essentially recreated my metadata from scratch, However that new data was not picking up the intros at all not matter how many times I tried to scan the folder.
Found some instruction on transfer of Metadata to other NAS so I though I would add my original Meta Data which was located ///plex/library/application support/plex media server. I then copied it to the shared folder that was created in I manually installed plex after the dsm update ///plexmediaserver/appdata and my plex looked just Like it did before the update.
However I am finding that newer stuff I add after the update is not creating intros. I can play the videos fine and access the without issue from plex but no intros.
Added some new content and intro detection looks like its working for most newly added content. Any Content that already had skip intro setup still works. Not sure but for the most part everything appears to be working the way it should.
