I recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu on my server and have been trying to set up my plex server again. The biggest issue right now seems to be that it can’t grab poster or actor images for movies. For every single movie it instead seems to use a screenshot for the poster. TV Shows seem to be fine. Now, I have researched this to death and have read nearly every thread where someone reported a similar issue and everything that I have tried has failed.
Things I have tried:
-Changing the agent of the library (Plex vs The Movie DB)
-Changing the ordering of the additional agents in settings/unchecking local data
-Deleting and recreating the Library (96 Movies)
-Created different library with only one non mp4 movie
-Adding plex to the ufw Ubuntu default firewall
-Making sure I was using Google DNS
-Renaming the video file inside the correctly labeled folder
Things I haven’t tried
-Reinstall Plex
-Try to look at logs and understand those
I feel like my server is failing to connect to the agent enough for it to pull the poster. It’s odd to me though that it can pull other metadata just fine. This is incredibly annoying and I have spent hours bashing my head against the wall to no avail. Please help!!
Thanks for the response! Sorry I couldn’t get to this earlier. Here is the zip. Hopefully it contains what you need. I clicked “refresh metadata” for one movie and waited until it was done and then downloaded this. Plex Media Server Logs_2018-08-22_18-53-52.zip (1.1 MB)
So…I think I may have solved the problem, but I’m confused by why it worked. I guess I should have poked around the logs myself before. I googled the error and read a bunch about it and one person tried disabling IPv6 on their machine. Since I already had a problem with IPv6 and apt-get on my machine I decided to follow some instructions to disable it on my machine in general. I went back to Plex and did a refresh of one movie and BOOM…posters!!
Now, I don’t understand networking very well but I find a few things odd:
-IPv6 is and was disabled on my Plex server
-In my Ubuntu network manager I set the IPv6 tab to ignore because I thought that would prevent my machine from using IPv6 (maybe this was an error)
-TV shows worked fine before I did this…
Hopefully this helps the next poor soul that spends hours trying to solve the same problem lol. Also maybe this should be in plex instructions somewhere unless I am responsible by disabling IPv6 in network manager…thats all I can think of
I’m suffering the same issue in my raspbian installation (some movies’ posters failing to show, no issues with TV shows), and analyzing the logs I couldn’t detect any issues with permissions or anything like that.
No troubleshooting help/tip was offered at Movie Posters not showning other than the Plex team is working on it; but I’ll surely try disabling IPv6 and report back.
Thx for the tip!
I disabled IPv6 but not luck with getting Movies’ posters being displayed on old entries, ones where I refreshed metadata or new items… totally lost on what it can be the cause as logs don’t offer any clue.
