It’s transcoding audio, but using Direct Stream for the video (which is fine)
That shows that the movie is HDR10, not Dolby Vision.
Is that from a Blu-Ray source? If so, that movie is only HDR10

Here’s a DV movie I couldn’t play. All my 4K movies are ripped from the 4K disc itself.

The Antman Quantumania was ripped from the 4K disc.
I see your playback. You’re not using a NUC like I am right? What are your server specs?
Ok, that indicates it is playing back as Dolby Vision.
So you are not seeing the DV logo on the TV when playback starts?
One moment while I try to reproduce.
I have a 12th Gen NUC as a server and use an Nvidia Shield Pro (2019) as a player.
I also have a 1st Gen Apple TV 4K that the wife likes to use.
Yeah Antman was the wrong movie to play. Plex can play the HDR10 fine. It just couldn’t play the DV movies.
Yeah I don’t see any DV logo on the TV when playback starts.
Assume HDMI deep color is enabled for that input
Also, Freesync Premium needs to be disabled for that input (Freesync Premium removes DV from EDID data, EDID character limit.)
You may have already done that but just a couple of things to cross off specific to DV
Gotcha. I think my NUC is older than yours probably by a few years. Yeah I like my AppleTV too.
I am not sure I have them enabled or not. Where are they located so I can check?
That’s awesome yours can play. Not sure why mine can’t.
On an LG
Deep Color:
All Settings → General → Devices → HDMI Settings → HDMI Deep Color
Freesync
I think this is only enabled if your TV input is in Game Mode.
If you are using Game Mode, I would recommend disabling it when doing anything other than gaming or using it as a monitor.
When it plays Alita, it’s stuck on a black screen with time count on 4 second. It just stays there. Then I get this error message.
Ok let me check out the TV settings.
For this we will need to see the server logs
I just checked out my LG OLED settings. Deep color is enabled. I also forgot to mention one thing. Everything is connected to my Marantz audio receiver. The LG OLED TV and AppleTV are connected to the receiver. The NUC isn’t.
Could the receiver be the problem?
My TV isn’t on Game Mode.
Oh… Well if you are not able to playback the movie at all, no it is probably not the issue.
BUT, if you can play the movie and it is only playing in HDR10, then I would question if your receiver supports Dolby Vision.
Because it’s quick let’s go ahead and address the receiver, what model is it?
