Server Version#:1.28.5.5621-7000
I have an mkv 4k file of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grinderwald. If I am using the latest server downloaded form Plex on a Synology, this movie doesn’t show up in my Plex library. The same movie does show up in my library when looking at my Plex server on my Mac mini. Any thoughts on why certain mkv files in the same location on my Synology server would show up on a Mac mini Server but not a Synology server, when both are pointed at the same location?
Could be many things, starting with different configurations of your libraries or different agents. Whatever is causing this, it seems to be resulting in one of those libraries “mismatching” your movie as a different one… did you already check your library for duplicate items?
It isn’t mismatching the movie. The total number of movies on the Synology is one less than on my Mac mini. Everything is also set up the same as far as I can tell.
Duplicates don’t appear in the # of items visible in the library.
You can identify them using the Duplicates filter.
I turned the duplicates filer on, and there were no duplicates. Also all of the other movies are the correct ones, so it isn’t mislabeling that movie. My 4K library is small, so it easy to keep track of what should and shouldn’t be there. For some reason, this movie file simply isn’t showing up in my library.
What is the naming schema/folder layout for your movies? And you performed a library scan correct?
My main folder is called 4K Movies. Each movie inside of that is in its own folder with the movie name and year as the title. All of the other movies in this folder scan correctly. This movie simply doesn’t show up. When I take it out of the main folder, the library notices a change and scans. When I put it back in, it scans again, but still nothing shows up.
If you are using the Plex Movie agent, try including the IMDB ID in the folder & file name.
Then Plex Dance the movie.
This works on my server:
/movies/Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) {imdb-tt4123430}/Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) {imdb-tt4123430}.mp4
If it still does not show up, then set the folder/file permissions in Synology File Station. Set them even if File Station shows they are OK.
- In File Station, right click on the folder containing the movie (or the entire library). Choose Properties.
- Make sure the owner is correct.
- Click the “Apply to this folder, subfolders, and files” box.
- On the Permissions tab, verify things are set correctly.
- Click the “Apply to this folder, subfolders, and files” box.
- Save.
- In Plex, rescan the library.
Changing the name and doing the Plex dance did nothing, but checking the box for “Apply to this folder, subfolders, and files” did the trick! I checked my other movies that showed up and they all looked the same as the problem folder. I wonder why that specific one had the issue? Thank you for your help FordGuy61. You are a true Plex Ninja!
