My Plex has suddenly stopped working on my Samsung Smart TV as of today. It was working fine until last night but today when I turned it on it wouldn’t open. When I select the app it just does nothing.
Mine stopped working a few days ago but had been working just fine up until that point. I can open the app, see content but when selecting something to play, it continually loads until it times out and I’m given a message stating:
“There was problem playing this item. The video did not start playing in time.”
It’s stuff like this which causes me to advise people to not depend on the built-in apps of “smart” TVs… which tend to be anything but “smart” and only have the circuitry horsepower of your old cell phone from years ago.
Save your money and just invest in a separate player (Roku or whatever) that will actually get updated.
Keep in mind that Smart TVs are basically simple computers. If something isn’t working, try the old faithful “unplug and plug it back in”.
This just happened to me yesterday, hence me coming to the forum to try to get some ideas as to what happened or how to resolve it. Mine continually loads to no avail, and unfortunately the whole unplug and plug back in thing didn’t help one bit.
Next step would be to uninstall and reinstall the app.
If that doesn’t work, the drastic step would be to factory reset your TV and reinstall the app from the beginning.
Hi. This happened to me and my dad too. We both have Samsung TV’s.
I can still access my plex via my laptop on a web browser, but not on the apps on the TV etc.
Maybe Samsung updated the software, and now the app wont work. I can get into it while its off line, but it wont connect to any of my servers.

I would be visiting Samsung website and checking your TV’s model firmware has had an update. If so, a restart from the wall by pulling the plug or a factory reset. Much the same as if your computer starts playing up. Other than that make sure the Plex app settings have not altered on the TV.
