Plex not working on Sony

Hi & thanks for taking time to reply, much appreciated.

It’s out of plex’s control… and also out of sony’s control… who’s in control!?

Response from sony cs last week,

With reference to your enquiry, we certainly appreciate your feedback on this matter and we will definitely pass it across to the relevant teams, but as mentioned previously, we are afraid that we do not have control over third party applications.

Can’t plex find a new provider to update the app on sony tvs. Sony has hundreds of apps in their store, I’m sure they’re not all going to get binned.

Cheers

Rob

Hi @markus101 - Can you give Sony a kick on the ETA ?

Its been 18 days since you said they are working on it.

18 days in dev time is a long time to have a service down !?

Cheers

D.

wow Sony, wow,…

so at the 30. Jun 2019 i can use my TV in the Sleepingrom as a door stopper. No Plex, Netflix, youtube and all other apps i got installed. Nice…

And again will be a former global player go to my blacklist… I have payed a lot of money for this TV and from now on i will never buy a Sony product again!

My advice is don’t rely on the “smart” part of SmartTV and purchase an over-the-top (OTT) box such as Roku, Amazon Fire, etc. OTTs are much less expensive to replace while you keep your expensive TV for its primary purpose.

Bump, any update?

Had a update now its not playing some 7.1 Audio… No audio at all.

Just thinking about this.

Lost count of the number of weeks this hasn’t worked.

Just tried now and still no joy.

I refuse to do the view workaround out of principle.

Can you please clarify? Did you received an app update and it works, but won’t play 7.1 Audio. Is that correct how i read that?

Whats the work around BigDan, I must have missed it.

Yes. Received a plex update and now I can’t play some 7.1 movies. There is video no audio. Weird.

If you load plex through the opera/viewed store it supposedly loads.

One too many clicks for me though

folks, devs here they dont care. is simple as that. they blame sony/viewd but does nothing to resolve a problem that only interferes with plex.
They don’t want to waste a minute on a player that is not brand new.

Pretty much all my problems I posted here get the typical response of “it something else” and do nothing.

And that response from the dev “is a viewd problem, no eta” is a “we don’t care and will do nothing”. Its a easy response to only post on this every a few weeks blaming sony.

same.!!! they doont care, Now i am trying to switch the Emby! or any others

Excuse me coming in so late but this greatly disturbs me, unless I am misunderstanding. I have a HD Bravia TV, not that old, but not Android. I have got by using Plex through the Opera/Vewd link which is a minor irritation, and if that’s how it’s gonna be from now on that’s OK. Before I learned about that option I could use the Plex app on my phone and cast it to the Chromecast on the TV. I guess I can still do that.

But if I correctly understand what I’m reading here: (1) the Opera/Vewd Plex option is definitely going to stop in a couple of months (2) other apps I use on the TV like Netflix, Lightbox, Youtube, Vimeo etc. are also likely to stop working then (3) my only option is to buy a new TV.

Is this really true?

Cheers, T

Found a way to open directly a working Plex from your phone when you are on the same LAN.

First you need to set your TV to use a pre-shared key.

  1. Navigate to: [Settings] → [Network] → [Home Network Setup] → [IP Control]
  2. Set [Authentication] to [Normal and Pre-Shared Key]
  3. There should be a new menu entry [Pre-Shared Key]. Set it to 0000 . If you choose anything else, you need to change that pass on the curl command below.

Next you can install the app called “HTTP Request Shortcuts” and add a new shortcut.
When adding a new shortcut select “From cURL command” and paste the follow:

curl -v -XPOST http://YOUR_TV_IP/sony/appControl -d '{"method":"setActiveApp","params":[{"uri":"https://plex.tv/web/tv/opera"}],"id":4,"version":"1.0"}' -H "X-Auth-PSK: 0000"

Remember to change the “YOUR_TV_IP” to your current tv ip. And if you changed the 0000 pass to anything else. change it to in the end of the curl command.

Save it as “Open Plex” or the name you want, (and also you can set the icon image the same as Plex) and if you hold your new shortcut you can add it to your home screen as a new app for a one click open plex with no ads or app opened in the phone

What model? Also note that “[Home Network Setup]” is at the very bottom of the [Network] menu. Do not confuse it with the configuration for the cable/wifi at the top.

Yes, I saw that!

It’s a bravia w905a

I see that W9 dont have that option. If you are a bit tech savvy you could try the follow method to authenticate with the tv and generate an auth code:
https://github.com/breunigs/bravia-auth-and-remote/blob/master/auth_cookie_examples/auth.sh

and follow the instruction here:
https://github.com/breunigs/bravia-auth-and-remote/issues/9

for any models previous to W800 included, you can get it working only with changing the preshared key described a few comments before
