I have a good number of personal media files that I load into plex using the show/personal media shows. I have embedded metadata in the mp4 files for Title, Artist, Year, Comment, and Description (I never remember which one is of the Comment or Description Plex pulls in). Most of the time Plex reads the metadata in an populates the information just fine. But occasionally, it will stop for a particular Show (my grouping of like media in a series). Once it does that, it will not read the embedded metadata for any new mp4 added to the series.
I’ve tried tricks I’ve used in the past (restarting the server; restarting the computer; refreshing metadata, moving the files to a non-monitored folder, emptying trash, the moving them back). None of these worked. However, creating a brand new library with the same settings did work. I don’t want to have to spawn a new library everytime this happens since I would end up with hundreds of libraries and would end up losing my watched history.
Are there any options that I might be missing that will force plex to re-read the embedded metadata in an mp4 file.
