That’s got nothing to do with the discussion you just hijacked… (folder view not working vs. libraries not showing). Please don’t do that… it’ll only raise confusion
As for your issue:
update your Plex Media Server to the current public release (1.19.3)
Hello. On topic. Our apps on our mobile devices (iOS) also updated yesterday. However, I am stuck on using an old Plex Media Server since it’s running on Ubuntu 14.04.3. I know it’s old, but it has been working without a glitch on version 1.14.1.5488, since that is the latest version that is supported on Ubuntu 14.04.3.
So you’re telling me that I need to reinstall my server (Ubuntu 19 or 20), then reinstall Plex and then the app which always worked fine until the forced update of yesterday can pick up my libraries again ?
Isn’t it possible for the developers to add support (since they removed it in the first place ?) for older Plex Media Servers (be it with a warning or something) ?
Thanks !
Edit : to be sure I was not crying havoc, I just tried installing 1.19.3 on Ubuntu 14. It installed. But it won’t start
Cannot make any promises… only saw that Plex is looking into this.
Easy / short-term fix is to update if possible.
@dmeerveld: in any way you might want to look into how to get your server (OS) to a level that’s still manageable (and not just “somehow running” like the other user’s Windows XP server). Otherwise you’ll have an increasing risk of running into this kind of upgrade / compatibility issues.
Current Plex releases for Ubuntu require at least Ubuntu 16.04…
@ChuckPa: do you have any knowledge of issues with the current version of PMS not starting on Ubuntu 14 – and maybe an easy fix (or is that so old it’s out of any support consideration)?
@tom80H Yeah. Already ordered an SSD which I will add to my server (currently houses 13 HDD’s, so an extra SSD won’t kill it). I will install the latest Ubuntu LTS on that and then go from there to get my other stuff working again as well (Deluge/Sickrage/custom php stuff). It’s not only a Plex server. If it was I would have updated it long ago.
Also, not running on Ubuntu 14 has to do with Python 3 I guess.
check for updates button is greyed out and not accessible. version is 1.16.5. It had been a problem to update over the last year or so, and now I am unable to even have an attempt made.
From what I understand it was actually more of a mishap – not an intentional change.
Just take it as a gentle reminder to disable automatic updates for your clients, if your server cannot be updated any longer (or you choose not to update it). Minimum system requirements will at some point change – but should in any way be announced in the respective release notes of the impacted clients.
