Plex on Synology seeing some valid video files but not others

Player Version#: 4…63.0 (on the NAS). Have also tired with latest version for Apple TV
Synology: DSM 7.0.1-42218

Disclaimer: Total newbie to both Synology NAS and Plex so I may be missing something obvious.

I am experiencing a weird issue where only some of my video files show up in Plex. I have put my first 5 video files in a ‘Media’ folder, which I created at the top level of the Synology NAS (i.e /volume1/Media) but only 2 show up in Plex. All 5 files are owned by the same user (osbornefoote). When I inspect properties of the files and folders I can see that the user PlexMediaServer has read/write permissions on both the folder and all 5 video files. So the issue doesn’t seem to be permission.

The videos are a mix of .m4v and .mkv files. Of the two I can see there is one .m4v and one .mkv, so the issue doesn’t seem to be filetypes. All 5 files play perfectly in VLC on my Mac and are playable via Synology’s own Video Station app, so it’s not that corrupt video files not being recognised.

I have repeatedly tried ‘Rescan Library Files’ to no avail and am now at a total loss as to what is going on. Grateful for any thoughts / help

  1. Most common problem is naming – having them named per Plex rules
  2. Second most common (mp4 / m4v) - embedded metadata titles are incorrect which results in the same result as bad file naming

Can you show me the names, exactly as you have them?

OK. Super weird. I relinked and renamed the Library files and can now see everything!
