Plex setup problems - Windows 10

I am having trouble with my set-up. I don’t know where to located my server and player version (the app?) but I am using latest current versions, downloaded from Plex in the past three days. When I try to use Plex, I get a message: "OfficeDesktop is currently unavailable
Verify you have a network connection and that the server is online, or see our troubleshooting tips for further assistance.

The troubleshooting steps do not seem to help. One troubleshooting step presents a problem. It says “Ensure that Plex Media Server is actually actively running” I’m not sure how I do this.
Perhaps I look at devices? Looking there opens a window that list several devices including “OfficeDesktop”, but it says “two days ago”; I’m not sure if that means it is not running - or if it means it is running but I have not successfully made a connection.

I did do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the media server and app, hoping that would resolve things, but the issue remains the same.

Server Version#:4.33.1 (?)
Player Version#:

PROBLEM SOLVED!!??
I seem to have finally solved my problems. The document that was key is at https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/?_ga=2.251805961.1249913871.1589668822-1516023481.1588558814 and is entitled "Why I am locked out of Server Settings and How Do I get In. In my case, the issue seems to be that I originally signed up for Plex with a lifetime subscription quite some time back and had problems getting things started then. I eventually gave up figuring I would get back to it eventually. My new efforts stalled as outlined in my initial post. This appears to be because even though I uninstalled and then reinstalled both the media server and the app, there were elements left behind from my previous efforts in the Windows registry. Uninstalling all and then eliminating the offending registry elements allowed me to do a new clean install that finally worked.

Here are key elements from that article, although I would encourage you to go the article itself directly.
The key registry entries are in:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server

then:

Windows

  1. Quit/exit your Plex Media Server, so it’s not actively running
  2. Open the appropriate Registry area (as noted above) to edit
  3. Highlight the following entries and delete them:
  • PlexOnlineHome
  • PlexOnlineMail
  • PlexOnlineToken
  • PlexOnlineUsername
  1. Launch your Plex Media Server (In my case, I did not see PlexOnlineHome but found and eliminated all the other entries.

Then I had to open the Plex Web App in a different fashion:

Load the Local Version of Plex Web App

You first need to launch the local version of Plex Web App rather than the hosted version. For instance, if you’re on the computer running the Plex Media Server, you can go to: http://localhost:32400/web or http://127.0.0.1:32400/web

I was able then to sign in on the app and the server, add my files in a new library (I think I may have not correctly entered the path to the library when I tried to set things up way back when).

At this point, things seem to be working.

Hope this helps folks. When I was searching the forums for help, I was running into several people describing problems like mine, but none of those posts ever seemed to have a reply/solution posted.
