I have set up and used PMS in the past on a MacMini and a few months ago on another PC, not my current PC that I am writing this from.
I am thinking of setting up either a Windows 10 PC PMS, or perhaps a small 2 bay Synology NAS. I want the capability to provide plex to 2 smart TV’s each that have a Plex player app(I am assuming this). One of the Smart TV’s also has a FireTV attached which has a Plex player app. I also have several tablets ( kindle fire, Samsung galaxy Tab s4), 3 smart phones (2 S9 and 1 S7) plus another Windows 10 PC ALL of these devices would have the PLex Player app on them. I want to create a setup where I can stream LIVE Local OTA TV to any of these devices, some at the same time of course via my home wifi network.
The question is If I purchase the Lifetime Subscription for Plex Pass will it work on all of the above devices, OR do I have to purchase a Plex Pass for each of the devices? Assuming I logon with the same user acct/password on all of the devices.
Any help or assistance will be greatly appreciated.
From a compatibility stand point, you should have no problems there. If you were trying to utilize Live TV you may run into issues with Multiple devices access a limited amount of tuners. Plex does allow tuner sharing inside the app. From my experience it works like this:
1 player 1 tuner.
2 players, 2 tuners
where each device locks in a tuner.
also
2+n players 1 tuner
where 2+n players can share a single tuner
Plex will use the single tuner stream and distribute to all players using that resource." your mileage may vary".
Please note that if using HD vs SD of the same channel it will use 2 tuners.
CDKinG: I may be misunderstanding what you are saying. I’m relatively new to the Plex Live TV/DVR. Are you saying a 2-tuner dvr would limit me to 2 streams at a time? That would be acceptable. At most 1 or 2 of the devices would be used at the same time. TIA
Yes, each channel lock consumes a tuner so a 2 tuner device can only handle 2 streams.
However, PMS does tuner sharing so you can watch the same channel even at different time intervals on a single tuner. It is a great feature when watching sports and having to travel into multiple rooms within network as well as outside of LAN. .
