I am at a loss. How do I get Plex Plass to see my new installed HD Homerun Duo device?
Not much info provided on what you have tried so perhaps start with the configuring Live TV & DVR: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/225877347-Live-TV-DVR
I have done this. See the screen shot. All this results in is a spinning wheel searching for devices. Even when I input the I.P. address of the device. Nothing comes up.
What web browser are you using? If using Internet Explorer please try Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
I am using Google Chrome. Never use Internet Explorer.
That is good, IE does not work well with a lot of websites any longer. Can you send logs?
Before sending please do the following:
- Go to Settings/Server and ensure that “Enable Plex Media Server debug logging” is enabled, “Enable Plex Media Server verbose logging” is disabled, and “Allow Plex Media Server tokens in logs” is disabled.
- If you currently have a device configured in DVR refresh the EPG. Not sure if you already have DVR setup with a different tuner device. If not you can skip this step. I have a feeling you don’t but want to make sure.
- Stop the Server.
- Restart the Server.
- Try to scan without entering IP Address.
- If fails, try entering the IP Address.
- Settings/Server/Help then click the download logs.
Upload zip file created here.
Here is the log.
Seeing quite a few network messages in the logs. Is this a physical box or VM? Is the PMS machine and the HDHR device on the same subnet? Believe PMS is on 192.168.2.x network while HDHR is on 192.168.0.x network based on your screenshot of trying to enter the IP Address. PMS and the network tuner must be on the same subnet. I would also suggest going to my.hdhomerun.com from a web browser on the PMS machine and see if it detects the HDHR. While there verify the HDHR has the most recent firmware. You should see a green check
mark by the device firmware if it is up to date.
The antenna feed and HD Home Run unit, for my local channel feed, are located in a different room from where my CenturyLink router is located. Physically they can not connect directly. I have the HD Homerun unit connected to a Netgear N300 Wifi Range Extender, Model EX2700.
Is there anything I can do in consideration with regard to this setup, to make this work?
By the way, I am unclear with your abbreviations of: ** Is this a physical box or VM? Is the PMS machine**
Here is a screenshot of my.hdhomerun.com
VM = Virtual Machine
PMS = Plex Media Server
Are you not able to set the Netgear device on the same network? I have an old Apple Airport Extreme connected to my Time Capsule to provide better coverage outside on our patio. I have the Extreme setup in bridged mode so devices connected are on the same network subnet.
If you have to have the HDHR where it is at you could always look at Powerline Network adapters, Netgear actually makes some. They allow network connection using home electrical system.
Wow 95 channels. Would love to get that many where I am.
After an hour plus on the phone we have configured the NetGear WiFi Range Extender to the same network. STILL NOT LOCATING/SEEING THE HDHomeRun Device.
check if wifi isolation is turned on, this prevents anything connecting through the wifi extender from seeing other devices on the network.
Otherwise, you may just have to use a network switch and ethernet connection for simplicity sake.
I am not sure where I “check” if wifi isolation is turned on (or not).
Network switch and ethernet connection?
I set up and see my HDHomeRun Duo through their own app. Why isn’t Plex seeing this device?
I am at the point where the False Propaganda of Plex Pass is causing me to consider not renewing with Plex. The support is only this forum. I have spent way to many hours trying to figure out what is promoted as plug and play.
well, not sure how to say this without sounding like a jerk…
the fact that you are using a wifi extender indicates you have a non-simple network,
coupled with that it took an hour on the phone to get the network on the same subnet,
tells me that you have network issues that are complicating things, not because of plex pass, but because of your network setup.
while I know that plex pass is required for dvr/tv, it is not going to magically make things work that are completely outside its intention or ability.
If you do not know what a network switch and ethernet is, or how to check for wifi isolation, I would suggest you enlist a friend or someone who is familiar with networks and routers and extenders to help you get your network sorted out before placing all the blame on plex.
apologies if this sounds harsh, but your issues do not seem to be anything specific to plex, your plex isn’t working because your network is not setup correctly/normally, or something is still incorrectly configured.
Not sounding like a jerk at all. I know what ethernet is. I am confusing your reference to a network switch with the ethernet comment. Nonetheless, unless someone is familiar with Plex services, enlisting just anyone in network services may not suffice.
Not sure how my computers and tablets see and access the HD Homerun Duo but Plex does not.
another thing to check would be upnp, on both your main wifi/router and the extender, to see if is enabled and/or blocked.
the homerun and plex use network broadcasts/upnp protocol to identify each other, and if something is blocking either one, they won’t be able to connect.
the simplest way towards getting it working, is putting your plex server and homerun on the same side/same connection of the network.
if your plex server is plugged into the network somewhere, try to plug in the homerun at the same place.
Ideally for best performance and reliability, you want them both as close (networking speaking) to the main internet connection as possible, connected directly to a switch, not going over wifi at all. Your client devices should be able to use wifi or wired to connect to either of them.
