Plex Playback Error "Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted"

Plex Media Server Version#: 1.29.1.6316-7000
Synology Model: DS918+
DSM Version: 7.1-42661 update 4

I am getting this error on my TV Shows library.

Plex
Playback Error
“Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted”

My Movies Library is working fine.

I use plex primarily for Movies and I feel like this is probably related to the upgrade issues around plex 1.15.4.994. I don’t watch many TV shows on plex and while I have a library for them, I don’t know that I’ve watched anything in the TV Shows library for several years.

I have reviewed the security changes documented here Plex Media Server security changes for Synology users - Plex Media Server / NAS & Devices - Plex Forum but these steps do not resolve my issue.

Additionally, adding a new library fails to find any files in the newly created library.

can anyone suggest next steps?

FAQ 19: Setting permissions to allow Plex access to media files

Reset permissions for the files & folders, even if they appear OK.

The system internal user PlexMediaServer needs at least read-only permission to the files.

Be sure to check the box for Apply to this folder, subfolder, and files.

Have you thought about updating 1.21 is OLD?

Otherwise reproduce the issue and post your logs.

Plex Media Server Logs_2022-12-24_12-22-46.zip (3.4 MB)
Here are the logs. And sorry, I entered the wrong version before, the correct version for PMS 1.29.1.6316 (Corrected in the original post also). Still not the latest, but no longer woefully out of date.

I did this again, but still no luck. I did make sure to include subfolders and files.

Thanks for the log files.

It is a permissions problem. Plex cannot read from /volume1/TVShows. It has no problem reading from /volume1/Movies.

Did you recently update from DSM 6 to DSM 7? Your first post mentions 1.15.4.994, which was never available for DSM 7.

Make sure you set permissions for the system internal user PlexMediaServer, not Plex.

The username under which Plex runs changed for DSM 7.

Mentioning it because it is easy to miss when updating things.

Thanks FordGuy61! That did it. I figured it was permissions, but I kept giving the wrong account permissions.
