Plex player doesnt show episode titles - when season's are year based

Server Version#: 1.41.6.9685 (plex docker version)
Player Version#: 1.108.1.307-dd5b87aa (WINDOWS CLIENT)

When I have a TV series that has seasons based on Years - i.e. folders like
TV Show\Season 1943\S1943E01.file.ext

The Plex player just shows the episode number in the UI - and not the title and other information that is available on tvdb

Looking at the live logs - it looks like its getting title information for the thumbnails.

I also tried the web browser client - it has the same issue - screenshot below

I have tried “Refresh Metadata” and “Fix match” but this doesn’t fix the issue.

Edit the Show, then set the Episode Ordering to “TheTVDB (Aired)”.

I didn’t have that option on mine. But i found that in the libraries TV section i edited the agent from plextv to tvdb. Then refreshed all metadata. This fixed the episode names.

It is there, if your library uses the modern metadata agent (which you should use whenever possible).
But you need to make sure that you edit the show as a whole, not just a season or an episode.

But i found that in the libraries TV section i edited the agent from plextv to tvdb.

Going back to the legacy agents is a bad idea. Because they will be defunct in the not-so-far future. And even now you will lose some features that the modern agent has.

To add to OttoKerner,

Using the current (modern) agents, I just added the cartoons library again
( I forgot to after a reinstall – release testing )

The names come up correctly from TheTVDB (Selected when creating the library section)
