Plex Player has issues playing next

My Plex player on my Smart TV which is a Sony seems to have issues when playing next. So an episode is done, it just sits and spins to load up the next episode and nothing happens. If I chrome cast from my phone to the tv it works. I have another Sony tv that doesn’t have any issues playing next. Just wondering what I should do to help fix this issue. Thank you for the help.

Yep, same problem with 4 Sony TV’s (all Android) in my house. Play an episode to the end, the next one is lined up, countdown and a black screen! I have to exit out of the TV Show and manually select the next episode.

Never used to do this so it obviously got broken in the last update - GGGRRRRRRR!!!

Ok well i am glad it’s not me! It works great on my newer Sony! Old one from 2015 does what yours does…

Chiming in to say I’m also experiencing this on a 2017 Sony. Was working fine right up until about a week ago.

I’ve also been having issues with starting new videos. It will play audio initially but the video is either black or frozen on a single frame. It will eventually either jiggle loose and sync up (still somewhat annoying) or else the entire app will crash and restart (incredibly annoying).

Oh I will also add that regardless of whether auto-advance works or not, playing the next episode is broken if you attempt it on the final episode of a season. It will not advance to the next season’s first episode. This seems to have been broken since the way the seasons are displayed changed a while ago (where it now displays a ribbon of episode thumbnails instead of a grid, something else I wish was optional instead of forced on us).

Both issues require backing out of the player and manually selecting an episode. Sometimes for auto-advance the season display glitches out and you have to return all the way to the home screen. For going to the next season you need to laboriously back out and manually select the next season from the topmost menu.

Hi,
I have this issue with Nvidia Shield on an intermittent basis. If I restart the Nvidia device the problem goes away. The problem appears in video and when playing full albums.

My TCL Android TV doesn’t play next either. Even if I have ‘repeat all’ on, the screen turns black and the timer goes negative and won’t bump to the next episode. I bought the tv in May and Plex hasn’t ever worked correctly on it. I need to use my old Roku stick to get continuous play (I tend to need it on to sleep). I had no idea there would be Plex issues when I opted for an android TV instead of a roku. It seems the problem has been going on for over a year without any fixes. :frowning: Some say it has something to do with the audio format of files, but I haven’t been able to determine that. I just hope a fix is in process.

I think it has to do with the Plex app on Android being complete garbage. Kodi/Emby play my files just fine on the Shield.
But frankly, I’m switching back to my Roku and will dust off the Shield again in a few months to see if the Android app is any better.

Following up to say this still wasn’t fixed and I literally switched to using a FireTV box because the AndroidTV app is literally unusable in its current state.

Kind of defeats the entire reason I wanted a smart tv. I don’t get it. This worked fine for years, and then suddenly it can’t do something as simple as advance to the next episode of a show…though I should add even the FireTV app has a crash about once a day where it locks up on something and goes down.
