Plex Player on Android TV stops unexpectedly

I have been having issues for the past few weeks with videos unexpectedly stopping after about 15 minutes. I have to back out of what i am viewing, and restart to get to play again. I am only having issues with local viewing on my Shield TV (both the old version and new tube version) not with plex on my LG TV, or with remote streams.

Server Version#: Version 1.18.8.2527
Player Version#: Hello, Plex for Android world 7.6.1.7056 (debug: false)!
10-01 21:07:02.357 i: Manufacturer: NVIDIA Device: foster Model: SHIELD Android TV Product: foster_e Version: 8.0.0

Same issue here Mark, The video seemingly continues to play while the image and sound is frozen.
if you resume its always … as far in front of where you were as it took to find the remote and swear at the Tv. This is all after the latest Plex app update on a Shield TV Pro.
its happening for my parents on amazon devices and various TV apps so the problem isnt isolated to Android.

Yeah that’s exactly it Steve. I’ve been looking around for updates or similar issues and haven’t found any recent.

Same issue here. NVidia Shield with Plex server running on Unraid. This problem started after the last update from Shield (and subsequent update for the Plex app). I can’t tell which one is causing the issue. I don’t know if there is a way to downgrade the Plex app on the Shield to test.
Also same issue i noticed as @steve_c_hardy1_gmail_com mentioned, it continues to somehow play in the background and re-starting the video is far ahead of when it froze.

Only option i haven’t tried yet is to downgrade the H.264 version within the plex app to see if it makes a difference.

Same issue here. Extremely frustrating. Our movie stopped like 6 times last night. Been going on for over a week now. Usually force quitting the Plex app on NVidia Shield will work (after firing it back up again), but sometimes I have to do that twice. This is making my family really dislike Plex as a family movie watching solution.

There is another thread with the same issue. Is your server setting to kill a stream after paused for X minutes the same amount of time that the stream stops? If so set then clear out the setting and test.

Thanks for that info. It seems like it (set to 15 minutes) but couldn’t swear to it. I just changed it to 240 minutes and will see how it goes. Cheers.

Sounds like one of my problems recently as well. Had mine set to 20 and I have had stuff stop at about that time frame. Also set mine to 240 for testing

I had mine set to kill a stream after 10 minutes. I’ll report after checking. Can you link to the thread @FlashMasta?

I have the similar set-up. Server running on Unraid. Player running on Nvidia Shield. The app keeps crashing and sending me back to the dashboard of shield. Checking the plex shield logs I get a lot of these:

...and it goes on and on.

Same issue here.

Using Aptoide TV I installed the version of the Plex client from the 27th of February and the problem doesn’t exist on that version - at least on my Shield. The two versions after that both have the problem.

apparently it has been fixed in an upcoming beta version.

I updated my settings to remove the kill stream option, that has fixed the issue for me. Will try to enable after the next update. Thanks Everyone!

Just to circle back, setting my stream kill timeout to 240 minutes indeed seems to have resulted in a fix for me. At least, I changed that setting and then was able to watch a movie all the way through for the first time in a few weeks.
