Plex/Plexamp Chromecast not displaying Artwork on Wiim Ultra screen

Hi there,

I am unable to display Artwork through Chromecast, using Plex or Plexamp, on my Wiim Ultra screen, from a NAS local library composed entirely of flac files, that include a “folder.jpg” for each album.
I also tested embedding the artwork in each track, in case this could solve the issue, but I have had no success.

After contacting the Wiim support team, they blamed Plexamp and stated the issue was not at their end.
I tested casting on a TV with Plex and Plexamp, and was able to see the Artwork.
I tested with the mobile app Symfonium, and the artwork is displayed correctly on the Wiim Ultrac, through Chrome cast.

I find all this quite confusing and difficult to understand where the issue may be, based on those tests.
Is anyone able to display artwork on a Wiim Ultra around here?

Is anyone able to display artwork through Chromecast with a DAC other than the Wiim ultra?

It’s not just WiiM Ultra, but any chromecast / cast audio endpoint. The Plex’s chromecast audio implementation is half-baked and hasn’t been updated for ages. Not sending the artwork is one of the things that is not implemented.
When you cast to a TV / Chromecast video, it works a bit differently.

I have the same issue. Other apps work fine and display artwork through Wiim Ultra Chromecast but PlexAmp doesn’t. Hopefully the Plex team will review the Chromecast audio implementation. I also have issues like music disconnecting for 2 seconds from time to time when streaming from PlexAmp via Chromecast Audio (it’s not the network as I use the Ethernet connection for both Plex Server and Wiim Ultra). Do you have any short disconnects when streaming from Plex via Chromecast or Wiim app?

It is a sad state of affair, but at least now I can confirm where the issue is coming from.
You would think that sending artwork is fairly straightforward to implement… It is a bit of a let down that Plex can’t be bothered doing it…

@undragon I haven’t had this issue exactly, but at first, through Plexamp chromecast, any song would start and stutter on a loop after a few seconds.

This was resolved by updating to a beta firmware that the Wiim support team provided, after I contacted them.
Are you running the latest firmware?

It may be worth opening a ticket with them.
