Plex pulling incorrect film Summary language

Hi, since this afternoon, Plex has begun matching films correctly, but the film Summary is coming back in Dutch, rather than English

I’ve tried changing the relevant agent from Freebase to the Movie Database, and the language settings and locale settings are English and United Kingdom respectively.

All other metadata seems fine, and I’ve checked on TMDB to ensure the summary exists, which it does.

I’ve restarted the server, and been through any other setting I can think of, and everything is set to English / United Kingdom as appropriate.

Not really sure what else to try - it’s James Bond films I’m trying to add, and naming them in the format ‘James Bond - Live and Let Die (1973)’

Where did you do these settings? At the OS, in Windows? If so, they are not important to plex.

There are two places to check:

Both need to be set to English.

If you frequently use ‘Fix incorrect match’, the language set there (under ‘Search Options’) will be stuck to the particular movie you “matched” with it. You might wanna repeat the process and make sure the right language is selected there too.

Thanks OttoKerber,

no, I was referring only to the settings within Plex - and including the one under Search Options for incorrect matches (which I don’t use that often, but did use with some of these to see if that found an alternative match)

Tried a couple more this morning, and still have the issue.

I’ll try later with a non-James Bond film, see if it’s something specific to the James Bond files.

Edit:
Ok, tried a non James Bond film - same directory, same library - and this one populated in the correct language.
Any ideas what it could be about these files that they’re being matched as Dutch? Something amiss the AVI container?

Check if there is a .nfo file present in the folder with the Bond movies. If so, or if there are even several .nfo’s there, use a subfolder-per-movie.

Afterwards Plex Dance all Bond movies.

Just to update - I just manually fixed them in the end, but will keep hold of the ‘plex dance’ link - been trying to figure out the best/right sequence for that sort of thing, thanks

I’m having the same issue, specifically with Bond films. I found that right clicking on the .mp4 files, going into Properties, then the Details tab, then the Comments field revealed that the foreign language summary text had been entered into the Comments field. I have since removed this from all the files, then did the Plex Dance, but it’s still hasn’t fixed it.

Plex Dance

Yes, that’s the Plex Dance that didn’t work. Tried it again, step by step. Still doesn’t work.

Please post the Plex XML info of an affected movie.

Sorry paste didn’t work

OK, this movie is matched with Plex Movie and it says it uses english. LOL.

Review the agent settings of the Plex Movie agent, just to make sure.
Should look similar to this, unless you have different preferences in regard to ratings:

First measure to take: delete the local cache for both TheMovieDB and IMDB.
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/202967376-Clearing-Plugin-Channel-Agent-HTTP-Caches

Then reboot your server machine.
Then Plex Dance one movie, to see how it behaves.

Thanks for your help so far, I really thought you had it figured out but unfortunately it still did not fix it. I am utterly baffled.

Are you using English (UK) as well?
If so, could you switch to English US in the preferences of the Plex Movie agent and then Plex Dance one movie again?
I wonder…

Have been using English (US) the whole time.

Which server platform do you use?

Have you installed 3rd party metadata agents, i.e. does your Plex Movie agent list look significantly different than this one ?

It’s a basically default install on Windows 10. The only thing I’ve added it support for Trakt.tv. Here’s what was checked under Plex Movie Agents:

Local Media Assets (Movies)
Plex Movie
OpeSubtitles.org

I’ve matched your config above as OpenSubtitles.org was checked accidentally as I don’t have an account for that. Did the Plex Dance again, still no bueno.

At this point I’d be fine with just manually editing the summaries, what site would you recommend me to copy/paste them from?

Drag the line with ‘Local Media Assets’ downwards, so it sits below of ‘Plex Movie’.
This ensures that no embedded metadata in your mp4 files will overrride the stuff from the online metadata sources.

You could perform a ‘Fix Incorrect Match’ on the affected items. In the dialog window is ‘Search Options’. In there you can select TheMovieDatabase as alternative metadata source.

Or you go directly to IMDb or TheMovieDB and copy/paste from there.

Bingo! Looks like Plex Movie is the correct source for these, as Local Media & TheMovieDB both pull a Dutch summary, but Plex Movie is pulling it down in English. It’s also pulling completely different cover art, which I must say the other cover art was much better, but thanks so much for the help this is definite progress!

It usually pulls a whole selection of posters. Just edit the item and pick your favorite.
