PLEX QNAP stopped responding, but is running

Server Version#: 1.29.0
Player Version#: n/a

Hi All,

My PLEX server was up and sharing just fine via app.plex.tv. I saw the security announcement, so decided to change my account password (and logout all devices).
After that, logging into app.plex.tv, my server disappeared

When I try to login to https://192.168.20.22:32400, all I’m getting is a “this site can’t be reached” message. If I connect to http (not s), then I get back an XML file from PLEX.

When I ssh into the QNAP and look at the logs, I can see plex is running.
A netsta -anp shows the Plex Media Server process listening on port 32400
If I stop PLEX, that port frees up.

I was on v1.28.x, so I tried downloading 1.29.0 and upgrading to that.

At the moment I can’t figure out how to gui the local GUI back up and running.

I’ll upload the logs once I figure out a manual method.

When I try to access the https version, nothing logs into Plex Media Server.log
Occasionally this line appears a minute or so later:

Sep 20, 2022 22:46:19.949 [0x7f6ccd87fb00] DEBUG - Request: didn’t get any data from [::ffff:192.168.20.15]:53784: End of file

.15 is my laptop client

Plex Media Server.log (2.4 MB)

okay, maybe self-solved here.
I was looking back at this page

And saw that it wanted /web on the end of the URL for setup
I tried https://192.168.20.22/web, and that failed. So then I tried http - and that then wanted me to login to my plex account. At this point, it didn’t differ to app.plex.tv at all really - my server wasn’t listed.
I tried the maintenance wheel, but all it listed was preferences and the web setup.

Somehow - and I’m not sure how… I found my way back to the local plex setup, and was able to Claim the server.

So now it’s attached back up again to my account. This is a very confusing process and I didn’t realise that closing down logins would kick my server out too at the start.

You’ve gotten yourself kinda stuck now.

  1. You had a problem and apparently attempted to downgrade
  2. Before the downgrade completed, you stopped it
  3. You then upgraded back to 1.29.0 ?

Your log shows this mixed state.

At this point, let’s allow the database to finish its work.
(The J1900 CPU is not the fastest so this might take some time)

watch the CPU load
When it’s idle again, Restart PMS again.

Let it do a full normal down/up cycle.

When complete, now stop it and manually grab the logs ZIP file again and attach here.

Many thanks for the reply. I’ve not actively tried to downgrade anything no. I only take updates that come up from Plex itself telling me to update.

The qnap itself did have a firmware update recently, but I don’t think that changes Plex at all .

I’ll gather a new log

Heres the QNAP installer summary - definitely no downgrade attempted.
Latest logs attached. At this point I think it’s all up and running. I lost some pinned libraries to the left pane but I’m not seeing any other issue.

If you get stuck, i have a tool which will help with the database.
