Server Version#:PlexMediaServer-1.26.0.5715-8cf78dab3-x86_64
I just upgraded to this version of Media server on my QNAP and now it just hangs. I cannot access it via browser or app. Stopping and starting makes no difference. How do I get a copy of the previous version of the QNAP server to downgrade? This upgrade has messed up using Plex in my household - very unhappy! I have not changed any other software or QTS on my QNAP NAS - just Plex.
TIA for help fixing this!
My TS128A required 15+ minutes to complete the upgrade.
It failed.
I had to downgrade and am waiting now for it to finish with the database the second time.
I have a TS-453A which finishes the install in a few minutes. Where did you get your downgrade firmware from - I donât normally keep old versions locally, so am looking for where to find it, but not having any success.
I deleted Plex from my snap and went to QNAP add store and downloaded and installed their version to go to an older version:
PlexMediaServer-1.23.4.4805-186bae04e-x86_64.qpkg
I ran the ls command and this is the result:

So before I go and use this older version, is there anything else I need to do to completely clean Plex from my QNAP in case of some left over corruption.
I no longer use Plex much, but I would like it to work again for the odd movie/ series I have loaded.
Thank you - I understand what you are trying to do - I just want it to work on a version I knew worked before. So dropping back to the previous version I know worked before was my strategy - I just wanted to make sure there were no artefacts left from the later version that wasnât working that could interfere. So having dropped back to an older version now has everything working again. Given how little I actually use Plex, I will now lock myself at this version and not take the risk to update to any newer version of Plex. I donât need the hassle of software that doesnât work after an upgrade and I donât need new features. I am a software engineer and of late so many software updates of various products - looking at you Apple - cause more headaches, which is frustrating to users. So thank you for taking the time to help - but frankly, it would be easier if Plex provided a repository that was publicly accessible of older versions so one can downgrade when a new release has problems.
I donât know about SSH and unlike bm282 I ran the update this morning of the Firmware for my QNAP QTS (5.0.0.1986) on my TS-453A.
After running this my Plex stopped working. I therefore updated from 1.25 to the latest version of Plex - 1.26.0.5715-8cf78dab3 but still no luck.
I keep getting the notification that QNAP âis currently unavailableâ along with âVerify you have a network connection and that the server is online, or see our troubleshooting tips for further assistance.â
Following the general trouble shooting guidance I cannot connect to the server to check if non secure connections are possible.
I am on the same network and not try to access anything from outside of my internal network.
Iâve downloaded the logs, but I am not too happy about sharing it on a forum (not knowing all the data that is stored within it. Can I send it to you directly?
Just wondering which log file you need - I have noticed while browsing them that they appear to contain a lot of information about my network that I am not sure needs sharing.
How do I send it to you directly?
Thanks
Hi Stone_de_Croze - your information about problems created when upgrading to QTS 5, while frustrating for you, is helpful for me. I have been holding off upgrading to QTS 5 because of reported problems with Apple clients and concerns that it might break some apps on the QNAP. So I am not moving to QTS 5 on my set of QNAP devices. Your experience - and my experience of upgrading to the latest Plex version, demonstrates the increasing challenges we as users face with new versions of software that I suspect are now too complex to test thoroughly before releasing onto the unsuspecting public. If you are lucky, no problems occur. If you are unlucky like you and me, things break and it takes time and effort to get back to where you were. So the lesson I have now taken is not to upgrade any software unless it is absolutely necessary and then be ready for the world to collapse for a while to get things working again. Iâm looking at whether I can use a virtual machine on my QNAP to test any new version of Plex before upgrading it on my production machine. Good luck with dane22 fixing your problem and I will be interested in seeing the fix posted here so I and others can check what to do when changes cause software to fail.
Hi Dane, not really happy about sending all the log files. After having a quick look through there appears to be a lot of information about my network in there that would be superfluous to the issue and I am not keen to share that sort of sensitive data with a stranger - no offense intended.
Hi Buddy. Thank you for your words. I have tried rolling back the firmware to the previous version of 5.0 that I was running and this has not fixed the issue. I was not previously having issues with 5.0 but I can understand your hesitancy to update.
Hi Buddy, I can certainly appreciate your caution in sharing potentially sensitive information with folk you donât have knowledge of and who connect in a public forum. In this age, caution is well founded. I am equally careful about sharing information of concern. I am even careful about letting Apple replace a battery in my phone without deleting stuff then retrieving from a backup!! I use a VPN everywhere!!! So, not sure if it is relevant, but if you could edit the logs and âxxxxxâ what you might consider of concern without modifying or losing the overall context/ linkage of any info (e.g where the same reference occurs in multiple places, use a consistent replacement text) as a way forward. Just a thought to help you get things working again. Frustrating!!!
