Plex randomly missing episodes

Hey

Recently I have the weirdest error.
If I add a show it will find all episodes except one. I can remove the file and then readd it into the folder after a plex dance, but then it finds that episode and looses another one instead.

Like it seems that plex has a max amount of episodes alloted and it just randomly then decides to remove one. Since it was already recognized once the naming and metadata of the episode itself should be correct.

This seems to be mainly happening with anime (haven’t seen anything in this regard with normal shows).
I would understand if it is like a dual episode and then its missing one, but for me it just randomly removes the episodes. Could be 10, could be 5 or the last one.

The files are all there and the naming is completly correct.

Not sure if anyone has encountered this and how to deal with it.

Mind sharing a specific example of that structure and naming (library folder → episode files)?

It is basically

Tv shows - Show name - Season 1 - Show name - SxxExx - Episode name.

I tried removing the episode name, because for some anime episodes the name was super long and it suddenly started working. Could there be an issue that there is a max character number plex is looking for? It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but maybe it helps the agent find files faster.

Naming the episode now only with show name - SxxExx helps find plex all episodes.

Just a bit curious why that would be.

I know windows has a max length at 255 characters (name and path) I wouldnt be surprised if you are running into something similar.

I mean I am running it on the synology NAS, but yes I assume something similar is happening.

I will anyway soon move to unraid and hopefully that issue disappears.

You don’t need the episode name or even series name on the file itself.

Series with a stupidly long name
season 01
S01E01
S01E02
S01E03

That will work just fine assuming the series name is correct.

Yeah true, but for know the new version works. I may need to rethink it at some point.
