My recordings of Live TV programs are not properly scraped, and I understand that the issue is that the file is not named in a way that the scraper (i.e. theTVDB, etc.) can recognize what program it is.
So the file is named something along the lines of TVSHOW 11-15-2018, meaning it uses the date in the filename.
Is this an issue with not getting the correct EPG data? I’ve used a couple different sources and when click into a channel from the guide, they all indicate something along the lines of TVSHOW 11-15-2018, so is Plex taking what’s in the guide to name the file?
My Plex library consists of other movies and tv shows that all properly scrape, along the lines of TVSHOW S01.E01, but how do I get Plex to name the file that way to begin with when it records?
Plex will not to my knowledge name a recording as “TVSHOW S01.E01” it will name it as follows when it has valid EPG data: SEAL Team (2017) - S02E07 - Outside the Wire. Notice there is no period between S02E07 as you had in your example filename.
I record the CBS Evening News in my area and noticed that the filename seemed to be different last night when I was looking at the file in File Explorer. Unfortunately I have that show set to delete after watching so it is now gone off my system.
This could be a case of Plex not getting valid EPG data for the show and only being able to put the date in the filename.
Sorry for confusion, but I wasn’t trying to indicate it needed to name it exactly with a period. What I was trying to convey is that it should be trying to include a season and episode for it to be properly scraped.
So it doesn’t sound like I need to configure anything within Plex, but more so adjusting EPG data. I’ve been getting the info through WebGrab+Plus so I’m at a loss as to why the recordings aren’t named properly.
That would all be dependent on what the EPG data looks like that you are providing Plex from WebGrab+Plus. Guessing you can’t use the Gracenote data that Plex offers.
Plex saves recordings in multiple file-naming formats, sometimes adding file-recording TIME into the filename, then TVDB cannot resolve it, and Plex cannot read it. Look at the difference:
Good filename format:
Bad filename format: (with recording TIME in filename):
No idea why the difference. Based on the channel used to record it?
Let me know how I can help resolve this (or if you need more examples).
Plex uses the first naming convention when the recording has valid season/episode data. If there is no season/episode data for a show then the file will be named as shown in the second format. For example I noticed one of the old shows I record displays the Season/Episode data shown in the image below. If the first episode was recorded it would look like the first example, Live PD, you displayed above while the second one should look like the second example, BattleBots.
