Plex reinstalling on Synology DS920+ server NOT SHOWING

Hi, I installed Plex on my Synology ds920 but had issues so uninstalled the applications and the user details. Now I have reinstalled successfully but when I click the Plex icon it opens the page but shows no server? What is it I am doing wrong???

Appreciate if someone can give me step by step. Thanks

Really need support on this. I have uninstalled Plex from my Synology including user, and Plex folder, restarted and then installed again but still not showing the server. States that “you do not have access to this server”. Anyone???

@Jubz26

Good morning.

When you reset it all on Synology, one thing which didn’t happen on ( a limitation on DSM 6 ) is the Plex.tv records don’t get deleted (how the apps and friends find your server)

I took a look at your account before responding here.

I saw two previously-deleted server entries. They had been flagged as deleted (probably by you) but were not completely removed.

I took the liberty of removing them completely.

I’d like you to restart PMS and check now to see if everything is showing up again without the name collision you were having (same NAS, same name , different installation ID numbers === trouble )… I cleaed that out for you.

Hi seems to be working all good now. However, I noticed when I log out my Synology from the web browser, I can’t access the Plex server from devices. It seems as though it closes the app on the Synology.

Can I have Plex running always in the background of my Synology? If so what are the steps? Thanks

If the devices cannot access the server –

  1. The device apps are still looking for the old server ID (common problem – easily remedied by reinstall and pointing again at the re-installed one

  2. If it’s something else, please describe further

  3. PMS (the Synology package) will keep running until you STOP it in Package Center.

  1. Ok tha k you I’ll get them all to sign out and sign back in

  2. Something else I wanted to point out, when playing 4k movies whether within same network or outside, the movies buffer a lot. Is there a setting I need to change to be able to play 4k?

  3. Nice to know. So if I log off my Synology from the web browser, but the actual Synology machine is running including Plex it should theoretically remain on?

Sorry for all the noob questions

Regarding the buffering.

  1. Synology NAS systems don’t do well with Subtitles – in general.
  2. If you are careful about media curation (no PGS, VOBSUB, or DVDRIP subs) you’ll mostly be ok.
  3. Making sure the player is set to “automatic” or “only image formats” is important as well.
